45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, From his courageous efforts in two wars to his work
67 as an elected official and volunteer, Eddie Janek Sr. of Galveston
78 has devoted himself to serving the greater good, and he is indeed
89 deserving of recognition for his many accomplishments; and
910 WHEREAS, After growing up on a farm near West during the Great
1011 Depression, Eddie Janek volunteered for the U.S. Navy shortly after
1112 the United States entered World War II; he was just 15 years old at
1213 the time, so he fibbed about his age and doctored his Catholic
1314 confirmation records in order to fight for his country; he spent
1415 four years in the war's Pacific Theater, where he participated in
1516 landings in Leyte and Peleliu, and he remained a member of the navy
1617 through the Korean War, earning the rank of ship's serviceman
1718 second class; for his valorous service, he received numerous
1819 military citations, including the Philippine Liberation Medal and
1920 presidential unit citations from President Franklin D. Roosevelt
2021 and from the president of South Korea; and
2122 WHEREAS, After concluding his tenure in the armed forces,
2223 Mr. Janek settled in Galveston and went on to successfully pursue a
2324 career in the telecommunications industry, eventually starting his
2425 own company; for 16 years, he worked in behalf of area residents as
2526 county commissioner, and he has also benefited his community in a
2627 number of other ways, from raising funds for a neighbor in need to
2728 coaching Little League, Pony League, and American Legion baseball
2829 teams for several decades; and
2930 WHEREAS, Mr. Janek and the love of his life, the former Doris
3031 Denke, shared a rewarding marriage that spanned more than six
3132 decades before Mrs. Janek passed away in 2015; the couple raised
3233 three sons, Ed, Kyle, and Craig, and through the years, Mr. Janek
3334 has seen his family grow to include six grandchildren; and
3435 WHEREAS, Eddie Janek has contributed to his fellow citizens
3536 through a lifetime of purposeful endeavor, and in so doing, he has
3637 set an inspiring example of leadership, integrity, and generosity;
3738 now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby honor Eddie Janek Sr. for his service to his
4041 community and to his country and extend to him sincere best wishes
4142 for the future; and, be it further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for Mr. Janek as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4445 House of Representatives.
