| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, In 1995, the foundation was established to promote |

| 8 | 9 | | wellness among people in the Paso del Norte region, which includes |

| 9 | 10 | | El Paso and Hudspeth Counties in Texas, Doña Ana, Luna, and Otero |

| 10 | 11 | | Counties in New Mexico, and the City of Juarez in Mexico; its |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | primary focus is to improve quality of life through health |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | education and disease prevention; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The foundation benefited from an initial investment |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | of $130 million from the sale of the not-for-profit Providence |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Memorial Hospital; since the organization's inception, its |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | administrators have provided skillful stewardship of the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | investment trust to ensure that the foundation can continue its |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | work in behalf of generations to come; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Maintaining more than $200 million in holdings, the |

| 20 | 21 | | Paso del Norte Health Foundation leverages its resources to improve |

| 21 | 22 | | regional access to clean water, to diminish environmental hazards |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | from lead and pesticides, and to help achieve reductions in |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | regional smoking rates, sedentary lifestyles, obesity, and teenage |

| 24 | 25 | | pregnancy; it also supports child abuse prevention, and it sponsors |

| 25 | 26 | | a wide range of programs to advance early childhood development, |

| 26 | 27 | | youth engagement, emotional health, and healthy family and social |
