| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The members of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church |

| 6 | 7 | | in Magnolia Springs are celebrating the 150th anniversary of their |

| 7 | 8 | | church's founding on June 28, 2015; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Springhill Missionary Baptist was established in |

| 9 | 10 | | 1865 at the end of the civil war to provide a place for worship and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | education for recently freed slaves; they met in a log cabin until |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | 1868, when congregants purchased 14 acres of land for a church, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | school, and cemetery; as Magnolia Springs and the surrounding area |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | grew, so did the church, and its present facility was constructed in |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | 1970; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its history, Springhill Missionary |

| 16 | 17 | | Baptist has played a vital role in the community, providing myriad |

| 17 | 18 | | opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship; furthermore, |

| 18 | 19 | | the church has established the Sophronia Holmes and Willie M. |

| 19 | 20 | | Rosemon Scholarship to honor two devoted members and help support |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | local students, and it is active with the Kirbyville Christian |

| 21 | 22 | | Outreach program; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Springhill Missionary Baptist Church has long |

| 23 | 24 | | served as a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship |

| 24 | 25 | | there, and its continued existence is a testament to the unwavering |

| 25 | 26 | | commitment of its members and clergy, both past and present; now, |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of Springhill |
