6 | 7 | | passing of Larry Frank Orlando of Pinehurst on April 11, 2015, at |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Houston on November 11, 1944, Larry Orlando |

9 | 10 | | developed a passion for sports at an early age through the Variety |

10 | 11 | | Boys' Club, where he participated in basketball, baseball, |

11 | 12 | | football, and boxing and earned his nickname of "Red Dog"; he went |
---|
12 | 13 | | on to play football and baseball at Reagan High School and |
---|
13 | 14 | | subsequently at Kilgore College; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In addition to enjoying a long and fulfilling career |
---|
15 | 16 | | at the Houston Service Center, Mr. Orlando dedicated himself to |
---|
16 | 17 | | guiding young athletes in his community; he became a football coach |
---|
17 | 18 | | at the Variety Boys' Club and helped with other VBC activities, and |
---|
18 | 19 | | he coached at the Oaks Dads Club and the local YMCA as well; |
---|
19 | 20 | | moreover, he was the sports announcer for Houston Christian High |
---|
20 | 21 | | School for more than three decades and a press box announcer for the |
---|
21 | 22 | | Karl Young College Baseball League; he also brought joy to children |
---|
22 | 23 | | during his 25-year tenure as the official Santa Claus for the Texas |
---|
23 | 24 | | Children's Hospital; and |

24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Orlando was joined in marriage with the former |

25 | 26 | | Angela Warren in 1965; over the years, the couple became the parents |
---|
26 | 27 | | of three children, Vick, Toni Dene', and Gina, who preceded her |
---|
27 | 28 | | father in death; with the passing years, the family grew to include |
---|
28 | 29 | | six grandchildren; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Larry Orlando made a meaningful difference in the |
---|
30 | 31 | | lives of his loved ones and the numerous young people he mentored, |

31 | 32 | | and his contributions will long be remembered by all who had the |

32 | 33 | | good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it |

33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
