45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Larry Frank Orlando of Pinehurst on April 11, 2015, at
78 the age of 70; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in Houston on November 11, 1944, Larry Orlando
910 developed a passion for sports at an early age through the Variety
1011 Boys' Club, where he participated in basketball, baseball,
1112 football, and boxing and earned his nickname of "Red Dog"; he went
1213 on to play football and baseball at Reagan High School and
1314 subsequently at Kilgore College; and
1415 WHEREAS, In addition to enjoying a long and fulfilling career
1516 at the Houston Service Center, Mr. Orlando dedicated himself to
1617 guiding young athletes in his community; he became a football coach
1718 at the Variety Boys' Club and helped with other VBC activities, and
1819 he coached at the Oaks Dads Club and the local YMCA as well;
1920 moreover, he was the sports announcer for Houston Christian High
2021 School for more than three decades and a press box announcer for the
2122 Karl Young College Baseball League; he also brought joy to children
2223 during his 25-year tenure as the official Santa Claus for the Texas
2324 Children's Hospital; and
2425 WHEREAS, Mr. Orlando was joined in marriage with the former
2526 Angela Warren in 1965; over the years, the couple became the parents
2627 of three children, Vick, Toni Dene', and Gina, who preceded her
2728 father in death; with the passing years, the family grew to include
2829 six grandchildren; and
2930 WHEREAS, Larry Orlando made a meaningful difference in the
3031 lives of his loved ones and the numerous young people he mentored,
3132 and his contributions will long be remembered by all who had the
3233 good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3435 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Larry Frank Orlando
3536 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
3637 wife, Angela Orlando; to his children, Vick Orlando and his wife,
3738 Melinda, and Toni Dene' Orlando Alverson; to his mother, Eula
3839 Frances DuBroff; to his brother, Dr. Joe Orlando, and his wife,
3940 Hope; to his sisters, Constance DuBroff, Carol Price, and Deborah
4041 Pape and her husband, Glen; to his grandchildren, Lauren Orlando,
4142 Tyler Orlando and his fiancée, Ellie Dabney, Taylor Dene'
4243 Orlando-Gulledge, Forrest Vaughn, and Tanner and Teagan Alverson;
4344 and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4647 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Larry Frank
4748 Orlando.
