| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, St. John the Apostle Catholic School in North |

| 6 | 7 | | Richland Hills is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Affiliated with St. John the Apostle Catholic |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Church, the school opened in 1965 under the leadership of its first |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | principal, Anne Smith, with classes initially held in a temporary |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | building while the original eight classrooms were being |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | constructed; over the years, the campus has grown to include |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | numerous classrooms, a preschool building, a science room, a |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | library, a media center, and a gymnasium; in the fall of 2013, the |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | school adopted a new administration model, splitting duties between |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | the principal, Amy Felton, and a newly appointed president, David |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Dean; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, For a half-century, the school has maintained stable |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | enrollment and faculty, provided innovative programs and a relevant |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | curriculum, and consistently produced graduates equipped with the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in college and beyond; |

| 22 | 23 | | many alumni have later returned to enroll their children at SJS, |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | demonstrating their commitment to a value-based Catholic |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | education; and |

| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The school earned full accreditation status and |

| 26 | 27 | | several exemplary and outstanding ratings from the Texas Catholic |

| 27 | 28 | | Conference in 1987, and this achievement was repeated in 1997 and in |

| 28 | 29 | | 2007; furthermore, in October 2008 the U.S. Department of Education |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | named SJS a Nationally Recognized Blue Ribbon School, making it the |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | first educational institution in Tarrant County to receive this |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | distinction; and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to providing a holistic education, the |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | faculty and staff of St. John the Apostle School are helping young |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | Texans to reach their full potential and to become engaged and |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | productive members of their community; now, therefore, be it |

| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of St. John the |

| 38 | 39 | | Apostle Catholic School and extend to its students, administration, |

| 39 | 40 | | faculty, and staff sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
