| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1989, For Inspiration and Recognition of |

| 10 | 11 | | Science and Technology, or FIRST, encourages young people to take |

| 11 | 12 | | an interest in science and technology and to become leaders in |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | related professions; the organization engages students in |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | mentor-based programs that enhance knowledge in those disciplines |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | while fostering self-confidence, communication, leadership, and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | other life skills; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, This year's FIRST tournament involved a game called |

| 17 | 18 | | Recycle Rush, played by two rival alliances of three robots each |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | striving to score points by stacking totes on platforms, capping |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | those stacks with recycling bins, and properly disposing of pool |

| 20 | 21 | | noodles, which represented litter in the event; the Robonauts and |

| 21 | 22 | | their robot, Empire, joined forces with their alliance partners |

| 22 | 23 | | from Davis, Clovis, and Palmdale, California, in vanquishing tough |

| 23 | 24 | | opponents from across the United States as well as Canada and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Australia; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The Robonauts program was founded 19 years ago as a |

| 26 | 27 | | partnership between the NASA Johnson Space Center and Clear Creek |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | ISD, and it has since made significant strides in advancing |

| 28 | 29 | | community awareness of robotics; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, In collaborating with their partners to claim the |

| 30 | 31 | | 2015 FIRST world championship, the Robonauts have demonstrated |

| 31 | 32 | | outstanding talent and dedication, and their achievement stands as |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | a source of pride for their classmates and their many supporters in |

| 33 | 34 | | the local community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Clear Creek Independent School |

| 36 | 37 | | District Robonauts on being part of the winning alliance at the 2015 |
