H.R. No. 2832 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The chess team from Henderson Middle School in El Paso took top honors in its division at the United States Chess Federation National Junior High Championship in April 2015; and WHEREAS, Competing in the middle school novice category at the Galt House in Louisville, Kentucky, the team received important contributions from each player as they outmaneuvered their foes to claim the first-place trophy; with the victory, the Henderson chess team became the first squad from an El Paso school to win a USCF national title; and WHEREAS, Henderson was led by Leo Gonzalez, who finished in sixth place, and he was joined in the top 20 by Brandon Caballero in 13th place, Chris Carmona in 14th place, Rene Rodriguez in 15th place, Pedro Escobar in 17th place, Eduardo Retana in 18th place, and Jose Vanegas in 19th place; also contributing to the championship triumph were Lirio Gomez, Steven Mejia, Manny Tejada, Francisco Marquez, and Joshua Valero; moreover, each student benefited greatly throughout the year from guidance provided by HMS chess coach Saul Ramirez; and WHEREAS, With their accomplishments at the National Junior High Championship, the members of the Henderson Middle School chess team proudly represented their school, and the dedication the students have demonstrated is sure to serve them well in the years ahead; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Henderson Middle School chess team on winning the novice division at the United States Chess Federation 2015 National Junior High Championship and extend to its members and coach sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
