7 | 8 | | Schools in El Paso are leading the way in providing a comprehensive |

8 | 9 | | and academically challenging program of study that prepares young |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, T-STEM is a public-private initiative of academies, |

11 | 12 | | professional development centers, and networks designed to enhance |

12 | 13 | | instruction and student performance in science- and |

13 | 14 | | mathematics-related subjects at secondary schools; in addition to |
---|
14 | 15 | | drawing more students into careers in STEM fields, campuses awarded |

15 | 16 | | the T-STEM designation by the Texas Education Agency serve as |

16 | 17 | | demonstration schools and learning labs that develop new teaching |
---|
17 | 18 | | methods to be integrated into math and science classrooms; and |

18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Currently, only 91 schools statewide are designated |

19 | 20 | | as T-STEM academies, and 25 of them are Harmony campuses; El Paso is |

20 | 21 | | home to two Harmony charter schools that have implemented this |

21 | 22 | | state-of-the-art model, Harmony Science Academy and Harmony School |

22 | 23 | | of Innovation, which utilize a project-based approach with an |

23 | 24 | | emphasis on student-centered teaching; teams from Harmony schools |

24 | 25 | | also take part in FIRST Robotics, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST |

25 | 26 | | Lego League, offering students an exciting competitive outlet for |

26 | 27 | | skills in engineering and technology; and |

27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The T-STEM programs at Harmony Public Schools aim to |

28 | 29 | | inspire and nurture the ambitions of our future scientists, |

29 | 30 | | inventors, and innovators, and in so doing, they are making a |

30 | 31 | | tangible difference in the lives of students and the world around |

32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby recognize Harmony Public Schools in El Paso for |

35 | 36 | | involved with the El Paso T-STEM programs sincere best wishes for |
