45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Through their affiliation with Texas Science,
67 Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (T-STEM), Harmony Public
78 Schools in El Paso are leading the way in providing a comprehensive
89 and academically challenging program of study that prepares young
910 Texans for success; and
1011 WHEREAS, T-STEM is a public-private initiative of academies,
1112 professional development centers, and networks designed to enhance
1213 instruction and student performance in science- and
1314 mathematics-related subjects at secondary schools; in addition to
1415 drawing more students into careers in STEM fields, campuses awarded
1516 the T-STEM designation by the Texas Education Agency serve as
1617 demonstration schools and learning labs that develop new teaching
1718 methods to be integrated into math and science classrooms; and
1819 WHEREAS, Currently, only 91 schools statewide are designated
1920 as T-STEM academies, and 25 of them are Harmony campuses; El Paso is
2021 home to two Harmony charter schools that have implemented this
2122 state-of-the-art model, Harmony Science Academy and Harmony School
2223 of Innovation, which utilize a project-based approach with an
2324 emphasis on student-centered teaching; teams from Harmony schools
2425 also take part in FIRST Robotics, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST
2526 Lego League, offering students an exciting competitive outlet for
2627 skills in engineering and technology; and
2728 WHEREAS, The T-STEM programs at Harmony Public Schools aim to
2829 inspire and nurture the ambitions of our future scientists,
2930 inventors, and innovators, and in so doing, they are making a
3031 tangible difference in the lives of students and the world around
3132 them; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby recognize Harmony Public Schools in El Paso for
3435 their commitment to T-STEM education and extend to all those
3536 involved with the El Paso T-STEM programs sincere best wishes for
3637 continued success; and, be it further
3738 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
3839 for Harmony Science Academy and Harmony School of Innovation as an
3940 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
