 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Lancaster High School boys' basketball team
 reached the pinnacle of success by capturing the University
 Interscholastic League 5A state championship on March 14, 2015,
 with a victory in the title game at the Alamodome in San Antonio;
 and
 WHEREAS, The Tigers compiled an outstanding overall record of
 34 wins and just 4 losses, finishing the year with a 28-game winning
 streak and taking home the first boys' basketball championship for
 Lancaster High; during their impressive run through the postseason,
 these determined athletes defeated Spruce, Lindale, South Oak
 Cliff, McKinney, and Wilson High Schools before winning their
 semifinal game against Andress High to earn a spot in the
 championship contest; and
 WHEREAS, Matching up against Beaumont Ozen High School with
 the state crown on the line, the Tigers raced out to a double-digit
 lead after the first quarter; the team continued its fine play in
 the second half, combining an aggressive defense with solid
 shooting from beyond the three-point line to secure a 59-47
 victory; senior Elijah Thomas earned the Most Valuable Player honor
 after tallying 17 points and 9 rebounds, and he was joined on the
 All-Tournament Team by Antwon Portley and Deon Barrett; and
 WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, Lancaster also
 received valuable contributions throughout the season from the
 other members of the roster: Darius Anderson, Dominique Fobbs,
 Demarcus Hurd, Ike Durham, Josh Johnson, JaColby Pemberton,
 Jacorian Lee, Brandon Moore, LaQuan Butler, Nate Morris, Robert
 Pride, and Jordan Castillo; the players were guided by head coach
 Ferrin Douglas and assistant coaches Joseph Mayberry, Autry
 Bostick, Donald Story, and Lahara Bernard, and the Tigers also
 benefited from the efforts of manager Isaiah Manning; and
 WHEREAS, Demonstrating the talent and commitment of true
 champions, the Lancaster High Tigers have become a source of great
 pride to their school and community, and they may reflect with pride
 on a job well done; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Lancaster High School boys'
 basketball team on winning the UIL 5A state championship and extend
 to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
 the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
