H.R. No. 2851 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The King's Guard Chess Club at Melissa Dotson Betts Elementary School in Edinburg has qualified to compete at the National Elementary Championship being held in Nashville from May 8 through 10, 2015; and WHEREAS, The team's recent successes include first-place finishes in both the elementary and primary divisions at the school's inaugural chess tournament in February, and the Betts Elementary students earned a berth in the national contest by claiming several honors at the regional competition; and WHEREAS, Benefiting from the guidance of coaches Juan Davila and Jaime Peña, the members of the team include Tlaloc Alarcon, Carlos Arteaga, Christian Cortez, Andres Davila, Oscar Flores, Sebastian Flores, Randy Garza, Rodolfo Garza, Abram Gomez, Elysian Gomez, Jesus Lerma, Deanndra Martinez, Gabriel Martinez, Joshua Martinez, Gavin Rios, Christopher Rodriguez, Diego Sauceda, Saul Trevino, and Brandon Vargas; and WHEREAS, Through their exceptional talent and dedication, the King's Guard Chess Club players have earned a place among the top teams in the country, and they are indeed deserving of special recognition for this outstanding achievement; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the King's Guard Chess Club from Melissa Dotson Betts Elementary School on advancing to the 2015 National Elementary Championship and extend to the team's players and coaches sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the club as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
