 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The 2015 class of Leadership Montgomery County is
 initiating its class project, Keep US Fed Montgomery County, with a
 ribbon-cutting ceremony in The Woodlands on May 26, 2015; and
 WHEREAS, A joint project of several area chambers of
 commerce, Leadership Montgomery County is dedicated to training and
 empowering current and future leaders of Montgomery County through
 mentorship and a series of educational forums; each class
 undertakes a project to benefit the community, and this year's
 project is Keep US Fed Montgomery County, which will work to fight
 hunger in the area; and
 WHEREAS, Food insecurity affects one in seven people in the
 United States, and 30 percent of the nation's food ends up in
 landfills; Keep US Fed Montgomery County will work to alleviate
 both those problems by collecting good food that would otherwise be
 discarded by commercial kitchens and distributing it to charities
 that serve hungry people in need; and
 WHEREAS, This worthwhile effort is inspired by the Keep
 Austin Fed program, which has been doing similar work in Austin
 since 2004; Leadership Montgomery County is creating its own
 version in partnership with the Homeless Coalition of Montgomery
 County, which will continue the program after the LMC Class of 2015
 graduates; and
 WHEREAS, Through this innovative and compassionate project,
 the 2015 class of Leadership Montgomery County is helping to create
 more secure and healthy lives for county citizens, working to
 protect the environment, and establishing opportunities for
 community service that will help participants meet the challenges
 and opportunities of the future; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby commend the Leadership Montgomery County Class
 of 2015 for the launch of Keep US Fed Montgomery County and extend
 to members of the class sincere best wishes for great success with
 the project; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the Leadership Montgomery County Class of 2015 as an
 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
