| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Guy McClendon has been named a 2014 Corpus Christi |

| 7 | 8 | | recognition of his achievements in the Service and Leadership |

| 8 | 9 | | category; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished |

| 10 | 11 | | Scholars program was established to reward local students who have |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | demonstrated excellence in such areas as academics, athletics, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | leadership, and community service; since its inception in 1988, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | some 480 young men and women have been selected for this prestigious |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | honor, with the winners each receiving a stipend to assist with |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | college expenses; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The son of Kathy McClendon and Guy Morris McClendon |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Jr., Guy McClendon is a senior at Banquete High School, where he |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | maintains a 98 grade point average and ranks 10th in his class; he |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | has completed medical courses at Del Mar College and has earned |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | certification as a nursing assistant and an EKG technician; also |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | participating in a variety of extracurricular activities, he is a |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | member of the school's golf team and a huddle leader in the |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and he has served in leadership |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | roles in the student council, the Clover Leaf 4-H, and the BHS |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | chapter of HOSA-Future Health Professionals; in addition, he has |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | attained the rank of Eagle Scout; after graduation, he plans to |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | pursue a career as a registered nurse and later, a youth pastor or |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | missionary; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, This exceptional young Texan has worked toward his |

| 30 | 31 | | goals with tremendous dedication, and he may take great pride in all |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | that he has accomplished as he looks ahead to a future bright with |

| 32 | 33 | | promise; now, therefore, be it |
