| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1979, the Friends of the Texas Governor's |

| 9 | 10 | | Mansion is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the |

| 10 | 11 | | iconic Greek Revival home that has housed Texas governors since |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | 1856; in addition to its efforts in behalf of the Governor's |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Mansion, the group sponsors an annual competition for high school |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | students that encourages them to develop greater awareness of their |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Texas heritage; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Under the guidance of Saint Jo faculty member Shelly |

| 16 | 17 | | McAninch, Ms. Boelen and Ms. Stiteler entered the contest and won |

| 17 | 18 | | the Best Overall Award in the group category for their noteworthy |

| 18 | 19 | | presentation on the old Montague County Jail; now a Recorded Texas |

| 19 | 20 | | Historic Landmark, the jail was completed in 1927 and featured |

| 20 | 21 | | living quarters for the jailer and cells for male, female, and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | juvenile prisoners; during the 53 years that the jail served its |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | original purpose, it was overseen by numerous sheriffs, including |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | two female sheriffs, and it housed such notable criminals as Floyd |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Hamilton and Rex Beard, who was known as the "Paper Sack Bandit"; |

| 25 | 26 | | closed in 1980 when a new jail opened across the street, the Old |

| 26 | 27 | | Jail currently serves as a museum; and |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Through their informative and engaging project, |

| 28 | 29 | | Autumn Boelen and Sheridan Stiteler have helped others learn more |

| 29 | 30 | | about the fascinating history of the Lone Star State, and they are a |

| 30 | 31 | | source of great pride for their school and their community; now, |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
