H.R. No. 2947 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the passing of Ernestina Cavada of Corpus Christi on February 27, 2015, at the age of 93; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Marcelino Esquivel and Maria Del Refugio Esquivel, the former Ernestina Esquivel was born on October 16, 1921; she grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and helped raise her five brothers following the untimely death of her mother; despite her responsibilities at home, she graduated as valedictorian of La Joya High School; and WHEREAS, She was joined in matrimony to Ruben Cavada in 1941, and during World War II, she moved across the country to support his service in the United States Navy; subsequently, they settled in Corpus Christi, and she worked from home as a seamstress, delighting a wide clientele with her artistry; she shared a fulfilling relationship of 65 years with Mr. Cavada before his death in 2007; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Cavada was dedicated to her children, Armando, Abel, and Alicia, and she instilled in them the importance of education; later, she encouraged her nine grandchildren to excel academically as well, and at a reunion in 2012, she took great pride in the number of extended family members who had gone on to graduate from colleges and professional schools; and WHEREAS, Although Ernestina Cavada is deeply missed, memories of her great wisdom, faith, and kindness remain to comfort and inspire those she leaves behind; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ernestina Cavada and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her children, Armando, Abel, and Alicia Cavada; to her grandchildren, Marco Cavada, Marta Ortiz, Marivel Fontanez, Adelita Cavada, Alamar Cavada, Camilo Cavada, Ivan Cavada, Rudy Garza, and Christina Garza; to her great-grandchildren, David Cavada, Michael Cavada, Armando Cavada, Isabel and Sofi Ortiz, Cruz and Camila Fontanez, Aleksander McCritis, Nikolas McCritis and Viviana Green, Laura and Isaiah Cavada, Bellatina Harpel, and Benjamin and Noah Garza; to her brother, Angel Esquivel; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ernestina Cavada.
