9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The Atkinson Candy Company was founded in downtown |

10 | 11 | | Lufkin in 1932 by B. E. and Mabel Atkinson; over the decades, it has |

11 | 12 | | attained notable success with its assortment of sweets, and the |

12 | 13 | | business expanded in 1983 with its acquisition of the San |
---|
13 | 14 | | Antonio-based Judson Candy Company; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Today, the enterprise is owned and operated by the |

15 | 16 | | third and fourth generations of the Atkinson family and is ably led |
---|
16 | 17 | | by its founders' grandson, Eric Atkinson, who has served as |
---|
17 | 18 | | president since 2000; he has earned well-deserved recognition from |
---|
18 | 19 | | the industry by being named the 1990 Candy Man of the Year by the |
---|
19 | 20 | | Southern Candy and Tobacco Association, and he will be inducted |
---|
22 | 22 | | Association in the fall of 2015; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, For more than eight decades, the Atkinson Candy |

24 | 24 | | Company has held a special place in the life of the Lufkin |

25 | 25 | | community, and all those associated with the enterprise may take |

26 | 26 | | pride in its achievements; now, therefore, be it |

27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

28 | 28 | | Legislature hereby recognize the Atkinson Candy Company for its |
---|
29 | 29 | | many years in business and extend to the company's owners and staff |
---|
30 | 30 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
