| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Staff Lieutenant Art Barrera is retiring from the |

| 6 | 7 | | Texas Rangers on May 21, 2015, drawing to a close a notable career |

| 7 | 8 | | in law enforcement that has spanned more than three decades; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Barrera graduated from the Department of |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Public Safety academy in 1984 and spent the first 11 years of his |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | career as a highway patrol trooper, serving for three years in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Zapata and eight years in McAllen; in 1990, he earned a degree in |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | police administration from The University of Texas-Pan American, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | and in 1995 he was promoted to sergeant investigator; he served for |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | 13 years with the Motor Vehicle Theft Service, and he also served as |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | a raid entry team leader and participated in investigations of |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | fraud and pari-mutuel betting; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, This distinguished peace officer joined the Texas |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Rangers in 2008 and was stationed in McAllen; for the past five |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | years, he has earned the respect and admiration of his fellow |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Rangers as the staff lieutenant in charge of the Joint Operations |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | and Intelligence Centers in Laredo, Victoria, and the Rio Grande |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Valley; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Staff Lieutenant Barrera is |

| 24 | 25 | | supported by the love of his wife, Joan, and his two daughters, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Jennifer and Jacklyn; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Staff Lieutenant Barrera's dedication, |

| 27 | 28 | | professionalism, and integrity have greatly benefited the citizens |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | of Texas, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well |

| 29 | 30 | | spent as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Staff Lieutenant Art Barrera on his |
