5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Lillie Beatrice Thomas of Houston on May 10, 2015, at the |

7 | 8 | | age of 95; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The former Lillie Hill was born in Lake Charles, |
---|
9 | 10 | | Louisiana, on January 11, 1920, to Lucy and Everett Hill, and she |
---|
10 | 11 | | grew up in the company of eight siblings; a member of the Jack Yates |
---|
11 | 12 | | High School Class of 1937, she attended nursing school and went on |
---|
12 | 13 | | to enjoy a career that spanned more than two decades at the Veterans |
---|
13 | 14 | | Affairs Medical Center in Houston; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Thomas married George Amon Lillie, and over the |
---|
15 | 16 | | years, the couple were blessed with two daughters, Maria and |
---|
16 | 17 | | Ardell; fortunate to find love again, she was joined in matrimony to |
---|
17 | 18 | | Edward Thomas, and they became the parents of two children, Octavia |
---|
18 | 19 | | and the late Gerald Thomas; she eventually knew the joy of welcoming |
---|
19 | 20 | | three additional generations into her family; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Active in her community, Mrs. Thomas was a valued |
---|
21 | 22 | | member at Blueridge United Methodist Church for many years before |
---|
22 | 23 | | joining the congregation of St. John's United Methodist Church, |
---|
23 | 24 | | where she served in the Diamond Ministry and as a member of the |
---|
24 | 25 | | usher and communion boards; moreover, she was involved in the |
---|
25 | 26 | | Veterans Affairs Retiree Club and the Coats of Calantes; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, This beloved matriarch devoted herself to her faith |
---|
27 | 28 | | and her family, and those who were privileged to share in her love |
---|
28 | 29 | | and affection will forever hold her close in their hearts; now, |
---|
29 | 30 | | therefore, be it |

30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lillie Beatrice |

32 | 33 | | Thomas and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: |

33 | 34 | | to her daughters, Maria E. Jackson, Ardell Mock and her husband, |

34 | 35 | | Ronald, and Octavia Thomas; to her five grandchildren, Demetria, |
