5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy Craver of Jefferson celebrated her 103rd |

6 | 7 | | birthday on February 28, 2015, to the delight of her innumerable |

7 | 8 | | admirers; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born on February 29, 1912, during a leap year, the |
---|
9 | 10 | | former Dorothy Tennelle Brown began her education in Jefferson and |
---|
10 | 11 | | went on to graduate from high school in Fort Worth; she held a |
---|
11 | 12 | | number of interesting jobs, working as a magician's assistant and |
---|
12 | 13 | | as the only female staffer at the Jefferson Jimplecute newspaper; |
---|
13 | 14 | | following her marriage to an air force officer, Kenneth Craver, in |
---|
14 | 15 | | 1945, she moved to a base in England and worked in the legal |
---|
15 | 16 | | department as a staff judge advocate; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Craver was employed by the air force as a |
---|
17 | 18 | | civilian during her husband's long military career, and her sense |
---|
18 | 19 | | of adventure served her well during their many years overseas; at |
---|
19 | 20 | | their last duty station in Panama, she learned Spanish, and she |
---|
20 | 21 | | seized the opportunity to travel on the Amazon River and explore the |
---|
21 | 22 | | rain forest as well; the couple retired in 1972 and returned to |
---|
22 | 23 | | Jefferson, where they restored the home built in 1885 by her |
---|
23 | 24 | | maternal grandfather, Captain Charles Gibbs Graham; in addition, |

24 | 25 | | Mrs. Craver returned to journalism as a community columnist; and |

25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In the 1990s, Mrs. Craver became president of the |
---|
26 | 27 | | Opera House Theatre Players, collaborating with her daughter, |
---|
27 | 28 | | Marcia Thomas, the artistic and managing director; their production |
---|
28 | 29 | | of the Richard Rodgers musical I Remember Mama caught the attention |
---|
29 | 30 | | of the composer's daughter, writer and composer Mary Rodgers |
---|
30 | 31 | | Guettel, and she became a sponsor of the company; on Mrs. Craver's |
---|
31 | 32 | | 100th birthday, both Ms. Guettel and noted puppeteer Jim Gamble |

32 | 33 | | made generous grants to the theater in her honor; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Still residing in the home where she, her |
---|
34 | 35 | | great-grandmother, her mother, and her daughter were all born, this |
---|
35 | 36 | | remarkable centenarian maintains her own Facebook page, and she |
---|
36 | 37 | | continues to serve as president of the community theater group; |
---|
37 | 38 | | through her involvement, she has greatly benefited the arts scene |
---|
38 | 39 | | in Jefferson, and she is a source of tremendous joy and inspiration |
---|
39 | 40 | | to all who are fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it |

40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

41 | 42 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dorothy Craver on her 103rd |

42 | 43 | | birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
