| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Sheffield A. Kadane is stepping down as Dallas City |

| 6 | 7 | | Council member for District 9 in 2015, drawing to a close two |

| 7 | 8 | | decades of service to the community; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Sheffie Kadane's exemplary 20-year tenure in |

| 9 | 10 | | municipal government began in 1995, when he joined the City of |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Dallas Board of Adjustments, serving as vice chair until 2003; he |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | went on to become a member of the Dallas Park and Recreation Board |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | that same year, and he served as a vice chair and as liaison to the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Dallas Arboretum and to White Rock Lake; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In 2007, Mr. Kadane was elected to the District 9 |

| 15 | 16 | | seat on the city council, and over the course of his eight years as a |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | council member, he has been vice chair of the transportation and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | environment committee and has served on committees devoted to |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | public safety, economic development, the quality of life and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | government services, and judicial nominations; his knowledge and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | expertise in a wide range of community issues have earned him the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | respect of the public and his fellow council members; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Kadane's extensive record of community service |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | includes membership in the Dallas Northeast Chamber of Commerce, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | the Rotary Club, the Government Affairs Committee of the MetroTex |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Association of Realtors, the White Rock Lake Task Force, the board |

| 26 | 27 | | of the Department of Transportation, and several committees for the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Dallas Arboretum; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Sheffie Kadane attended Dallas schools as a child, |

| 29 | 30 | | graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, and then went on to earn |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | a degree from Arlington State College, now The University of Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | at Arlington; since 1963, he has served as president of PICS |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | Investment Company, and since 1978, he has also been a managing |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | partner of K-B Oil Company; in addition, he has worked as an agent |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | and broker for Ebby Halliday Realtors since 1995; in all his |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | endeavors, he has benefited from the love and support of his wife of |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | 40 years, Deborah, and his 7 children and 16 grandchildren; and |

| 37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Each day, public servants improve the quality of |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | life for their fellow citizens in innumerable ways, and the efforts |

| 39 | 40 | | of Sheffie Kadane have helped to make the city he loves an even |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | better place in which to live and work; now, therefore, be it |

| 41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 42 | 43 | | Legislature hereby commend Sheffield A. Kadane for his long service |
|---|
| 43 | 44 | | to the City of Dallas and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|---|
| 44 | 45 | | continued success and happiness; and, be it further |

| 45 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 46 | 47 | | prepared for Mr. Kadane as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
