45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
67 a close with the passing of esteemed educator and community leader
78 Clifford Charles Baker Jr. of Tyler on November 28, 2014, at the age
89 of 74; and
910 WHEREAS, Born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on August 26, 1940,
1011 C. C. Baker attended Tyler Junior College in 1960 and went on to
1112 graduate with bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas Christian
1213 University; and
1314 WHEREAS, Mr. Baker enjoyed a career in education that spanned
1415 more than three decades; he taught for a year at W. C. Stripling
1516 Junior High School in Fort Worth, and in 1965, he returned to Tyler,
1617 where he coached at Hogg Junior High School for six years before
1718 serving as assistant principal and then principal at John Tyler
1819 High School; in 1981, when a fire destroyed the school, he went back
1920 into the burning building to retrieve important records and in the
2021 aftermath helped seamlessly transfer students to a nearby campus;
2122 he was later named superintendent of the Athens Independent School
2223 District; and
2324 WHEREAS, Mr. Baker was subsequently hired as a development
2425 officer at Tyler Junior College, where he helped establish
2526 scholarship programs and build community support in behalf of his
2627 alma mater through the TJC Foundation; and
2728 WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Mr. Baker found
2829 time to serve on the boards of many worthwhile organizations, and he
2930 was a longtime congregant of the First Christian Church of Tyler;
3031 and
3132 WHEREAS, Mr. Baker shared a rewarding relationship with his
3233 wife, Brenda, and he was a loving father to their son, Joel; and
3334 WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, faith, and community,
3435 C. C. Baker will be deeply missed, but the integrity and generosity
3536 with which he lived his life will forever inspire all those who had
3637 the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Clifford Charles
3940 Baker Jr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
4041 family: to his wife, Brenda Baker; to his son, Joel Baker; and to
4142 his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4445 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
4546 C. C. Baker.
