5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |

6 | 7 | | a close with the passing of esteemed educator and community leader |

7 | 8 | | Clifford Charles Baker Jr. of Tyler on November 28, 2014, at the age |

8 | 9 | | of 74; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on August 26, 1940, |
---|
10 | 11 | | C. C. Baker attended Tyler Junior College in 1960 and went on to |
---|
11 | 12 | | graduate with bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas Christian |
---|
12 | 13 | | University; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Baker enjoyed a career in education that spanned |
---|
14 | 15 | | more than three decades; he taught for a year at W. C. Stripling |
---|
15 | 16 | | Junior High School in Fort Worth, and in 1965, he returned to Tyler, |
---|
16 | 17 | | where he coached at Hogg Junior High School for six years before |
---|
17 | 18 | | serving as assistant principal and then principal at John Tyler |
---|
18 | 19 | | High School; in 1981, when a fire destroyed the school, he went back |
---|
19 | 20 | | into the burning building to retrieve important records and in the |
---|
20 | 21 | | aftermath helped seamlessly transfer students to a nearby campus; |
---|
21 | 22 | | he was later named superintendent of the Athens Independent School |
---|
22 | 23 | | District; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Baker was subsequently hired as a development |
---|
24 | 25 | | officer at Tyler Junior College, where he helped establish |
---|
25 | 26 | | scholarship programs and build community support in behalf of his |
---|
26 | 27 | | alma mater through the TJC Foundation; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Mr. Baker found |
---|
28 | 29 | | time to serve on the boards of many worthwhile organizations, and he |
---|
29 | 30 | | was a longtime congregant of the First Christian Church of Tyler; |
---|
30 | 31 | | and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Baker shared a rewarding relationship with his |
---|
32 | 33 | | wife, Brenda, and he was a loving father to their son, Joel; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, faith, and community, |
---|
34 | 35 | | C. C. Baker will be deeply missed, but the integrity and generosity |
---|
35 | 36 | | with which he lived his life will forever inspire all those who had |
---|
36 | 37 | | the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Clifford Charles |

39 | 40 | | Baker Jr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his |

40 | 41 | | family: to his wife, Brenda Baker; to his son, Joel Baker; and to |

41 | 42 | | his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
