45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Proud citizens of Kennedale are gathering to
67 celebrate Kennedale Day at the State Capitol on February 10, 2015;
78 and
89 WHEREAS, Set among the rolling grasslands of southeast
910 Tarrant County, the site of Kennedale was originally inhabited by
1011 Native American tribes who hunted and fished along Village Creek;
1112 the Republic of Texas signed a treaty with the tribes in 1843, and
1213 settlers began moving into the area over the following decades; and
1314 WHEREAS, In 1882, John D. Hudson, C. B. Teague, and Oliver
1415 S. Kennedy bought land around a mineral well; a post office was
1516 opened on the land in 1884, and in 1886, a town was laid out and
1617 named Kennedale, after Mr. Kennedy; that same year, the Fort Worth
1718 and New Orleans Railway Company built a line through the town to
1819 connect Fort Worth and Waxahachie, along with a passenger depot and
1920 several section houses as residences for its employees; during that
2021 era, the town became known for its brickworks, and Kennedale brick
2122 was used in several structures in Fort Worth; and
2223 WHEREAS, A town that has grown into a city since the regional
2324 defense industry buildup of the 1940s, Kennedale today is an
2425 attractive and comfortable community of approximately 7,000
2526 residents with easy access to the amenities of Fort Worth and
2627 Arlington; residents and visitors alike enjoy the opportunities for
2728 recreation available at Rodgers Farm Park and Sonora Park, and a
2829 replica of one of the original railway section houses stands at
2930 TownCenter Park to provide a colorful reminder of the city's
3031 history and a backdrop for the annual Brickworks Art in the Park
3132 festival; and
3233 WHEREAS, The city continues to thrive under the leadership of
3334 Mayor Brian Johnson, Mayor Pro-Tem Kelly Johnson, and city council
3435 members Liz Carrington, Frank Fernandez, Charles Overstreet, and
3536 Mike Walker; also contributing to the community's growth and
3637 prosperity are the members of the board of the Kennedale Chamber of
3738 Commerce, including Chair Monica Collier, Chair-Elect Tom Hala,
3839 Mark Biondi, Carl Hall, Bob Hart, Mike Johnson, Monty Johnson, Fred
3940 Moore, Becky Mowell, James Mulroy, Joe Taylor, Jack Thompson, and
4041 Vickie Wallace; and
4142 WHEREAS, Preserving the city's small-town charm while
4243 working to build a bright future, the residents of Kennedale may
4344 indeed take great pride in their community's heritage and promise;
4445 now, therefore, be it
4546 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4647 Legislature hereby recognize February 10, 2015, as Kennedale Day at
4748 the State Capitol and extend to all those visiting from Kennedale
4849 sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable day.
