5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Proud citizens of Kennedale are gathering to |

6 | 7 | | celebrate Kennedale Day at the State Capitol on February 10, 2015; |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Set among the rolling grasslands of southeast |
---|
9 | 10 | | Tarrant County, the site of Kennedale was originally inhabited by |
---|
10 | 11 | | Native American tribes who hunted and fished along Village Creek; |
---|
11 | 12 | | the Republic of Texas signed a treaty with the tribes in 1843, and |
---|
12 | 13 | | settlers began moving into the area over the following decades; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In 1882, John D. Hudson, C. B. Teague, and Oliver |
---|
14 | 15 | | S. Kennedy bought land around a mineral well; a post office was |
---|
15 | 16 | | opened on the land in 1884, and in 1886, a town was laid out and |
---|
16 | 17 | | named Kennedale, after Mr. Kennedy; that same year, the Fort Worth |
---|
17 | 18 | | and New Orleans Railway Company built a line through the town to |
---|
18 | 19 | | connect Fort Worth and Waxahachie, along with a passenger depot and |
---|
19 | 20 | | several section houses as residences for its employees; during that |
---|
20 | 21 | | era, the town became known for its brickworks, and Kennedale brick |
---|
21 | 22 | | was used in several structures in Fort Worth; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A town that has grown into a city since the regional |
---|
23 | 24 | | defense industry buildup of the 1940s, Kennedale today is an |
---|
24 | 25 | | attractive and comfortable community of approximately 7,000 |
---|
25 | 26 | | residents with easy access to the amenities of Fort Worth and |
---|
26 | 27 | | Arlington; residents and visitors alike enjoy the opportunities for |
---|
27 | 28 | | recreation available at Rodgers Farm Park and Sonora Park, and a |
---|
28 | 29 | | replica of one of the original railway section houses stands at |
---|
29 | 30 | | TownCenter Park to provide a colorful reminder of the city's |
---|
30 | 31 | | history and a backdrop for the annual Brickworks Art in the Park |

32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, The city continues to thrive under the leadership of |

33 | 34 | | Mayor Brian Johnson, Mayor Pro-Tem Kelly Johnson, and city council |

34 | 35 | | members Liz Carrington, Frank Fernandez, Charles Overstreet, and |

35 | 36 | | Mike Walker; also contributing to the community's growth and |

36 | 37 | | prosperity are the members of the board of the Kennedale Chamber of |

37 | 38 | | Commerce, including Chair Monica Collier, Chair-Elect Tom Hala, |
