| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Katie Martin has ably served her fellow Texans as an |

| 6 | 7 | | aide in the office of State Representative Joe Moody during the 84th |

| 7 | 8 | | Legislative Session; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Since joining the staff, Ms. Martin has provided |

| 9 | 10 | | vital assistance with public education and child advocacy issues; |

| 10 | 11 | | even though she sustained a temporarily debilitating injury |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | following a serious fall, she ably fulfilled her responsibilities |

| 12 | 13 | | as a team member; she demonstrated exceptional skill, dedication, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | and attention to detail, with the small exception of that pesky |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | cliff; and |

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Martin, a Dallas native, completed her |

| 16 | 17 | | bachelor's degree in international relations and global studies at |

| 17 | 18 | | The University of Texas at Austin in 2012; as an undergraduate, she |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | cofounded a mentorship program for boys in Ghana and an empowerment |

| 19 | 20 | | group for boys at an East Austin middle school; she has since served |

| 20 | 21 | | two years in AmeriCorps, mentoring and tutoring students in San |

| 21 | 22 | | Antonio and Dallas and training volunteer tutors as the inaugural |

| 22 | 23 | | site coordinator at the Charles Rice Learning Center; in 2014, she |

| 23 | 24 | | received the AmeriCorps "Make a Difference" Governor's Volunteer |

| 24 | 25 | | Award; and |

| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan is pursuing a dual |

| 26 | 27 | | master's in social work and public affairs at UT in preparation for |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | a career in public service, and her outstanding performance as a |

| 28 | 29 | | legislative aide augurs a future bright with promise; now, |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby commend Katie Martin for her service as a |
