| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Virginia Vogel Smith of Kingwood passed away on May |

| 7 | 8 | | treasure the wealth of joyful memories they shared with her; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born on February 14, 1919, in Climax Springs, |

| 9 | 10 | | Missouri, the former Virginia Vogel was the daughter of Peter and |

| 10 | 11 | | Lena Vogel; she graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1939 and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | embarked on a career as an educator that would span four decades and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | encompass grades from kindergarten to high school; a dynamic and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | beloved teacher, she maintained high expectations for her students |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | and found fulfillment in helping them succeed; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In 1942, she married Glen Thomas Smith, with whom |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | she shared a long and rewarding union, until his death in 1983; she |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | was the proud mother of two sons, Mark and Reed, and with the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | passing years, she welcomed into her family five grandchildren and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | six great-grandchildren; alongside her husband, she was a valued |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | member of First Presbyterian Church; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her life as a teacher, wife, and |

| 22 | 23 | | mother, Mrs. Smith was an active civic leader during the more than |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | 45 years she resided in Galveston; drawing on her passion for |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | investing, she became the founder of two local investment clubs, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | and she served on the boards of the Galveston Opera House and the |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Rosenberg Library; she was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma |

| 27 | 28 | | Society, an organization dedicated to excellence in education and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | the professional and personal growth of women educators; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith moved to Kingwood in 2006 to be near her |

| 30 | 31 | | family, and in her free time, she enjoyed using her talent for |

| 31 | 32 | | needlework to make beautiful gifts for her loved ones; fondly known |

| 32 | 33 | | by the nickname "Tiny," she cultivated many close friendships |

| 33 | 34 | | throughout her life, and her encouraging words touched the hearts |

| 35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Although she will be deeply missed, Virginia Smith |
