5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Rod Schroder, superintendent of the Amarillo |

6 | 7 | | Independent School District, has been named 2014 Superintendent of |

7 | 8 | | the Year for Education Service Center Region 16; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Since 1984, the Texas Association of School Boards |
---|
9 | 10 | | has sponsored this annual award to recognize local school district |
---|
10 | 11 | | superintendents for their strong leadership skills, their |
---|
11 | 12 | | dedication to improving educational quality, student performance, |
---|
12 | 13 | | and employee relations, and their commitment to public involvement |
---|
13 | 14 | | in education; those receiving regional designations are honored at |
---|
14 | 15 | | the Texas Association of School Administrators/TASB annual |
---|
15 | 16 | | convention; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Schroder has more than 37 years of experience in |
---|
17 | 18 | | the Amarillo ISD, initially serving eight years as a junior high and |
---|
18 | 19 | | high school mathematics, physical science, calculus, and physics |
---|
19 | 20 | | teacher and an athletics coach; he first moved into management as |
---|
20 | 21 | | the school district assistant athletic director and subsequently |
---|
21 | 22 | | rose to positions as secondary personnel director, assistant |
---|
22 | 23 | | superintendent of personnel, and district superintendent; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his professional duties, this |
---|
24 | 25 | | esteemed administrator has given of his time and talent as a |
---|
25 | 26 | | two-time president of the Texas School Alliance, co-chair of the |
---|
26 | 27 | | 2003 United Way Campaign, chair of the Paramount Baptist Church |
---|
27 | 28 | | Board of Deacons, and member of several Texas Association of School |
---|
28 | 29 | | Administrators committees; he also serves on the Amarillo Education |
---|
29 | 30 | | Foundation and Amarillo Area Foundation boards, the Texas Panhandle |
---|
30 | 31 | | P-16 Council executive committee, and the Public Education |
---|
31 | 32 | | Visioning Institute Design Team; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Previously chosen as Region 16 Superintendent of the |
---|
33 | 34 | | Year in 2003, Mr. Schroder has garnered other such accolades, |
---|
34 | 35 | | including 2009 West Texas A&M University Graduate of Distinction |
---|
35 | 36 | | and 2011 Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year; and |

36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his impressive Amarillo ISD |
---|
37 | 38 | | tenure, Rod Schroder has worked tirelessly in behalf of area |
---|
38 | 39 | | students and has contributed immensely to advancing public |
---|
39 | 40 | | education in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
---|
40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
---|
41 | 42 | | Legislature congratulate Rod Schroder on his selection as 2014 |
---|
42 | 43 | | Region 16 Superintendent of the Year and extend to him sincere best |
---|
43 | 44 | | wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
---|
44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

45 | 46 | | prepared for Mr. Schroder as an expression of high regard by the |

46 | 47 | | Texas House of Representatives. |
