| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to |

| 6 | 7 | | recognize the officers and staff of Region VII of the Texas |

| 7 | 8 | | Department of Public Safety for their commitment to protecting and |

| 8 | 9 | | serving the legislators and state employees of the Capitol Complex |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Since September 1991, the men and women of Region |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | VII have been responsible for the security of the 46 square-block |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | area around the State Capitol that encompasses many state |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | government facilities; supervised by the regional commander, the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | region's staff includes commissioned and noncommissioned personnel |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | who are divided into details that cover the complex; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Their responsibilities include providing police and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | security patrol of the Capitol grounds, traffic supervision, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | parking administration, protection for visiting dignitaries, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | monitoring surveillance cameras, and staffing the x-ray machines |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | and metal detectors at the Capitol's entrances; in addition, the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | region's skilled and dedicated personnel also investigate crimes, |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | conduct vulnerability assessments to mitigate risk, and deal with |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | crowd control during rallies and demonstrations on the Capitol |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | grounds; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, For nearly a quarter of a century, the officers of |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Region VII of the DPS have worked tirelessly to maintain law, order, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | and civility in the Capitol Complex, allowing the state's |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | legislators and employees to safely and securely conduct the |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | people's business; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby commend Region VII of the Texas Department of |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | Public Safety for its outstanding record of protecting the Capitol |

| 33 | 34 | | Complex in Austin and extend to the region's officers and civilian |

| 34 | 35 | | staff sincere best wishes for continued success in their important |
