45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Kenneth W. Threlkeld of Tyler is celebrating his
67 50th anniversary in the insurance business in 2015, and this
78 milestone presents a fitting opportunity to take note of his
89 outstanding record of success and service to the community; and
910 WHEREAS, Mr. Threlkeld grew up on a farm near Ladonia, and he
1011 joined the U.S. Army in 1955; he went on to earn a bachelor's degree
1112 in business under the G.I. Bill from East Texas State College, now
1213 Texas A&M University--Commerce; and
1314 WHEREAS, After working as an accountant and auditor for
1415 Squyres, Johnson, Squyres in Tyler, Mr. Threlkeld began his career
1516 in insurance with a brief stint at State Farm before joining the
1617 Clyde & Prestridge Insurance Agency as an agent and accountant;
1718 within a year, he bought a half interest in the company, and he
1819 owned the agency outright by 1974; after merging with other
1920 agencies, he established his own company, Threlkeld & Company
2021 Insurance, in 1982; and
2122 WHEREAS, Today, Threlkeld & Company is one of the largest
2223 full-service insurance agencies in East Texas, and Mr. Threlkeld
2324 serves as its chief executive officer, while his son, Todd
2425 Threlkeld, who joined the agency in 1988, serves as president; a
2526 number of TCI employees have been with the company for many years,
2627 ensuring reliability and continuity of service for its customers;
2728 and
2829 WHEREAS, Long committed to advancing worthy causes and
2930 organizations, Mr. Threlkeld holds 50-year certificates from the
3031 Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and the Shriners; he is the
3132 founder and chair of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for East Texas,
3233 and he has served as president, chair, and member of the board of
3334 the Texas Agricultural Lifetime Leadership program at Texas A&M
3435 University, the Texas A&M University--Commerce Foundation, and the
3536 American Cancer Society; an ardent patron of the Tyler Cattle
3637 Barons' Gala, a fund-raiser for the ACS, he is famous for presenting
3738 custom cowboy boots to those who chair the annual event; and
3839 WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Threlkeld and the staff of his
3940 company support the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the American
4041 Cancer Society's Relay for Life, the Salvation Army's holiday
4142 Kettle Drive, and the Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon; and
4243 WHEREAS, Mr. Threlkeld's many awards include the Build East
4344 Texas Award of Excellence from the Texas House of Representatives,
4445 the W. E. "Bill" and Mary Clements Outstanding Leadership in
4546 Agriculture Memorial Award, and the Cystic Fibrosis Breath of Life
4647 Award; in 2015, he was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus of
4748 Texas A&M University--Commerce; and
4849 WHEREAS, Kenneth Threlkeld has proven himself a business and
4950 civic leader of great vision and ability, and it is a privilege to
5051 recognize him for all he has done to help build a brighter future
5152 for East Texas and for his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
5253 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
5354 Legislature hereby honor Kenneth W. Threlkeld for his 50 years in
5455 the insurance industry and for his outstanding civic leadership and
5556 extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
5657 further
5758 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5859 prepared for Mr. Threlkeld as an expression of high regard by the
5960 Texas House of Representatives.
