6 | 7 | | temper the profound sadness felt by the loved ones of Keith Everest |

7 | 8 | | Friend of Grapevine, who passed away on November 8, 2014, at the age |

8 | 9 | | of 48; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born to Pat and Julie Friend on September 8, 1966, |
---|
10 | 11 | | Keith Friend graduated from L. D. Bell High School in Hurst and went |
---|
11 | 12 | | on to attend Texas State University in San Marcos; he married Lori, |
---|
12 | 13 | | his high school sweetheart, on July 8, 1989, and the couple settled |
---|
13 | 14 | | in Grapevine, where they raised their children, Amber and Andrew; |
---|
14 | 15 | | and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A longtime employee of IBM, Mr. Friend was also an |
---|
16 | 17 | | active volunteer scout leader and committee member with Boy Scout |
---|
17 | 18 | | Troop 905 in Colleyville, and he was a former den leader for Cub |
---|
18 | 19 | | Scout Pack 817 in Grapevine; he encouraged his young charges to |
---|
19 | 20 | | participate in all aspects of the Boy Scout life and motivated them |
---|
20 | 21 | | to set and achieve personal goals, and through his example, he |
---|
21 | 22 | | showed them how to be a caring friend and a dedicated leader; even |
---|
22 | 23 | | as he battled cancer during the last six and a half years of his |
---|
23 | 24 | | life, he maintained a positive attitude and continued to be |
---|
24 | 25 | | involved in scouting activities; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his volunteer efforts with the Boy |
---|
26 | 27 | | Scouts, Mr. Friend enjoyed playing the guitar and sharing his |
---|
27 | 28 | | musical knowledge with beginning players; he also worked with the |
---|
28 | 29 | | youth at his church for many years, and he served as a compassionate |
---|
29 | 30 | | mentor to fellow cancer patients, lending them a sympathetic ear |
---|
30 | 31 | | and reminding them that they were not alone in their struggles; he |
---|
31 | 32 | | was unfailingly generous with his time, but most of all, he |
---|
32 | 33 | | treasured the moments he spent with his loved ones, whose days were |
---|
33 | 34 | | made brighter by his warmth, humor, and affection; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Although his days on this earth were far too few, |

35 | 36 | | Keith Friend left an indelible mark in the lives of numerous others, |

36 | 37 | | and his devotion to his family and to the youth of his community |

37 | 38 | | will forever inspire all those who had the good fortune to know him; |

39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
