45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
67 death of banker and community leader Clyde Brady of Quitman on
78 November 4, 2014, at the age of 94; and
89 WHEREAS, Clyde Brady was born in Winnsboro on April 18, 1920,
910 to Joe and Mattie Rushing Brady; after graduating from Quitman High
1011 School, he joined the U.S. Army during World War II and served with
1112 the 90th Infantry Division of the Third Army; he took part in the
1213 D-Day invasion, and he was wounded while fighting 17 miles behind
1314 German lines; he earned the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars for
1415 his courageous service; and
1516 WHEREAS, After returning home, Mr. Brady was joined in
1617 matrimony to the former Susan Stanberry in 1946, and they shared a
1718 rewarding marriage that spanned 57 years before Mrs. Brady passed
1819 away in 2003; the couple were the parents of three children,
1920 Shirley, Debra, and Tom, who preceded his father in death; and
2021 WHEREAS, In 1948, Mr. Brady took what he thought was a summer
2122 bookkeeping job with First National Bank of Quitman, but he stayed
2223 with the bank for his entire 40-year career, earning promotion to
2324 vice president and cashier in 1963, winning an appointment to the
2425 board of directors in 1967, and taking over as president in 1976, a
2526 position he held until his retirement in 1989; and
2627 WHEREAS, A respected figure in the Quitman area and beyond,
2728 Mr. Brady served on the boards of the Myrtle Springs Cemetery
2829 Association, the Federal Land Bank Association, the Texas Baptist
2930 Children's Home, Jacksonville Baptist College, and the Wood County
3031 Electric Cooperative; and
3132 WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community,
3233 Clyde Brady made a meaningful difference in the lives of his loved
3334 ones and fellow citizens alike, and his contributions will be
3435 fondly remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3637 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Clyde Brady and extend
3738 sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his daughters,
3839 Shirley Rushing and her husband, Billy, and Debra Holcombe and her
3940 husband, Bob; to his grandchildren, Heather Rushing Taylor and her
4041 husband, Jeremy, Corie Rushing Littlejohn and her husband, J. B.,
4142 Brady Holcombe, Brandi Holcombe, and Britney Holcombe; to his
4243 great-grandchildren, Jozie and Gavin Taylor and Makena, Kyler, and
4344 Cooper Littlejohn; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be
4445 it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4748 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Clyde
4849 Brady.
