5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | death of banker and community leader Clyde Brady of Quitman on |

7 | 8 | | November 4, 2014, at the age of 94; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Clyde Brady was born in Winnsboro on April 18, 1920, |
---|
9 | 10 | | to Joe and Mattie Rushing Brady; after graduating from Quitman High |
---|
10 | 11 | | School, he joined the U.S. Army during World War II and served with |
---|
11 | 12 | | the 90th Infantry Division of the Third Army; he took part in the |
---|
12 | 13 | | D-Day invasion, and he was wounded while fighting 17 miles behind |
---|
13 | 14 | | German lines; he earned the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars for |
---|
14 | 15 | | his courageous service; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, After returning home, Mr. Brady was joined in |
---|
16 | 17 | | matrimony to the former Susan Stanberry in 1946, and they shared a |
---|
17 | 18 | | rewarding marriage that spanned 57 years before Mrs. Brady passed |
---|
18 | 19 | | away in 2003; the couple were the parents of three children, |
---|
19 | 20 | | Shirley, Debra, and Tom, who preceded his father in death; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In 1948, Mr. Brady took what he thought was a summer |
---|
21 | 22 | | bookkeeping job with First National Bank of Quitman, but he stayed |
---|
22 | 23 | | with the bank for his entire 40-year career, earning promotion to |
---|
23 | 24 | | vice president and cashier in 1963, winning an appointment to the |
---|
24 | 25 | | board of directors in 1967, and taking over as president in 1976, a |
---|
25 | 26 | | position he held until his retirement in 1989; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A respected figure in the Quitman area and beyond, |
---|
27 | 28 | | Mr. Brady served on the boards of the Myrtle Springs Cemetery |
---|
28 | 29 | | Association, the Federal Land Bank Association, the Texas Baptist |
---|
29 | 30 | | Children's Home, Jacksonville Baptist College, and the Wood County |
---|
30 | 31 | | Electric Cooperative; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community, |
---|
32 | 33 | | Clyde Brady made a meaningful difference in the lives of his loved |
---|
33 | 34 | | ones and fellow citizens alike, and his contributions will be |
---|
34 | 35 | | fondly remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it |

35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Clyde Brady and extend |
