45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
67 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
78 of Theodore Woodrow Rye Jr. of Quitman, who passed away on September
89 9, 2014, at the age of 69; and
910 WHEREAS, The oldest of four children, Ted Rye was born in Fort
1011 Worth on May 29, 1945, to Bobbie Rye and Ted W. Rye Sr.; he
1112 graduated from L. D. Bell High School in 1963 and went on to attend
1213 the University of North Texas, where he met his future wife, Jan, in
1314 1966; the couple moved in 1975 to Quitman, which would become their
1415 permanent home; and
1516 WHEREAS, Mr. Rye served in the United States Navy during the
1617 Vietnam War; after returning stateside, he earned a degree in
1718 marketing from Texas Wesleyan University in 1970; he went on to
1819 enjoy a successful career with Walls Industries that spanned more
1920 than 35 years as a sales and marketing specialist for the company's
2021 industrial and outdoor clothing division; and
2122 WHEREAS, Mr. Rye was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who
2223 volunteered for many years with the Boy Scouts of America; he was a
2324 scoutmaster for Troop No. 36 in Quitman and was a member of the
2425 Tyler District Committee and co-chair of the East Texas Area
2526 Council; in 1995, he was appointed to the National Camp Inspection
2627 Team, and in 1996, he received the highest volunteer award given by
2728 the organization, the Silver Beaver Medal; and
2829 WHEREAS, A man of many talents and interests, Mr. Rye enjoyed
2930 fishing and playing golf and established area records in both
3031 sports; he was also a pilot and an accomplished horseman and member
3132 of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, competing as a calf
3233 roper at rodeos nationwide; and
3334 WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Ted Rye will
3435 long remember this accomplished man for his zest for life and for
3536 his kind and caring ways, and he will forever hold a treasured place
3637 in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Ted Rye Jr. and
3940 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his mother,
4041 Bobbie Rye; to his former wife, Jan Rye; to his son, Tate Rye; to his
4142 grandson, Spencer Rye; to his sister, Kathy Totsch; and to his other
4243 relatives and friends; and, be it further
4344 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4445 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4546 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ted Rye.
