5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

6 | 7 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends |

7 | 8 | | of Theodore Woodrow Rye Jr. of Quitman, who passed away on September |

8 | 9 | | 9, 2014, at the age of 69; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The oldest of four children, Ted Rye was born in Fort |
---|
10 | 11 | | Worth on May 29, 1945, to Bobbie Rye and Ted W. Rye Sr.; he |
---|
11 | 12 | | graduated from L. D. Bell High School in 1963 and went on to attend |
---|
12 | 13 | | the University of North Texas, where he met his future wife, Jan, in |
---|
13 | 14 | | 1966; the couple moved in 1975 to Quitman, which would become their |
---|
14 | 15 | | permanent home; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Rye served in the United States Navy during the |
---|
16 | 17 | | Vietnam War; after returning stateside, he earned a degree in |
---|
17 | 18 | | marketing from Texas Wesleyan University in 1970; he went on to |
---|
18 | 19 | | enjoy a successful career with Walls Industries that spanned more |
---|
19 | 20 | | than 35 years as a sales and marketing specialist for the company's |
---|
20 | 21 | | industrial and outdoor clothing division; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Rye was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who |
---|
22 | 23 | | volunteered for many years with the Boy Scouts of America; he was a |
---|
23 | 24 | | scoutmaster for Troop No. 36 in Quitman and was a member of the |
---|
24 | 25 | | Tyler District Committee and co-chair of the East Texas Area |
---|
25 | 26 | | Council; in 1995, he was appointed to the National Camp Inspection |
---|
26 | 27 | | Team, and in 1996, he received the highest volunteer award given by |
---|
27 | 28 | | the organization, the Silver Beaver Medal; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A man of many talents and interests, Mr. Rye enjoyed |
---|
29 | 30 | | fishing and playing golf and established area records in both |
---|
30 | 31 | | sports; he was also a pilot and an accomplished horseman and member |
---|
31 | 32 | | of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, competing as a calf |
---|
32 | 33 | | roper at rodeos nationwide; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Ted Rye will |
---|
34 | 35 | | long remember this accomplished man for his zest for life and for |
---|
35 | 36 | | his kind and caring ways, and he will forever hold a treasured place |
---|
36 | 37 | | in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
---|
38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Ted Rye Jr. and |

39 | 40 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his mother, |

40 | 41 | | Bobbie Rye; to his former wife, Jan Rye; to his son, Tate Rye; to his |

41 | 42 | | grandson, Spencer Rye; to his sister, Kathy Totsch; and to his other |

42 | 43 | | relatives and friends; and, be it further |

43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
