7 | 8 | | Augustin Lucio Jr. of San Marcos, who died on November 13, 2014, at |

8 | 9 | | the age of 91; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The son of Augustin and Maria de Jesus Lucio, |
---|
10 | 11 | | Augustin Lucio Jr. grew up on a farm outside San Marcos; at the age |
---|
11 | 12 | | of 18, he answered his nation's call to duty by joining the U.S. |
---|
12 | 13 | | Army and was assigned to Company L, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Regiment, |
---|
13 | 14 | | 2nd Infantry Division; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Lucio's first combat mission was the D-Day |
---|
15 | 16 | | invasion of Normandy, and a day later, when his unit's platoon |
---|
16 | 17 | | sergeant was wounded, he took charge of the 45-man troop and led |
---|
17 | 18 | | them through a number of important engagements, including the |
---|
18 | 19 | | Battle of the Bulge; honorably discharged in 1945, he was awarded |
---|
19 | 20 | | the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart, as well as the |
---|
20 | 21 | | French Croix de Guerre, among other medals and ribbons; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Following the war, Mr. Lucio returned to San Marcos, |
---|
22 | 23 | | where he and his wife, Delia, shared 69 happy years; together, they |
---|
23 | 24 | | became the parents of four beloved children, Rosemary, Carol, Joe, |
---|
24 | 25 | | and Robert, and later knew the joy of welcoming into their family |
---|
25 | 26 | | three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Lucio enjoyed a notable career of more than |
---|
27 | 28 | | three decades at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, retiring in |
---|
28 | 29 | | 1979 as a chief supply inspector; he contributed to the San Marcos |
---|
29 | 30 | | community as a cofounder of the local chapter of the American GI |
---|
30 | 31 | | Forum and as a member of VFW Post No. 3413, the Knights of Columbus, |
---|
31 | 32 | | the Holy Name Society, and St. John's Catholic Church; in addition |
---|
32 | 33 | | to serving on numerous national, state, and local committees, he |
---|
33 | 34 | | was a member of the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School |
---|
34 | 35 | | District board for 19 years and led a boycott of the district over |
---|
35 | 36 | | its lack of Hispanic teachers; the San Marcos High School library is |
---|
36 | 37 | | named in his honor; and |
---|
37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Augustin Lucio was a brave soldier, a caring husband |
---|
38 | 39 | | and father, and a committed member of his community, and the |
---|
39 | 40 | | contributions he made in each of these roles will long inspire all |
---|
40 | 41 | | those who were fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

42 | 43 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Augustin Lucio Jr. |

43 | 44 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |

44 | 45 | | wife, Delia; to his daughters, Rosemary and Carol; to his sons, Joe |
