45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A life lived with joy and enthusiasm drew to a close
67 with the passing of Teddy Lee Stewart of Dripping Springs on
78 December 17, 2014, at the age of 67; and
89 WHEREAS, Born to Kenneth and Josephine Stewart on July 30,
910 1947, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Ted Stewart moved to Odessa with
1011 his family at an early age; he was a standout athlete at Permian
1112 High School before enrolling at Odessa Junior College and capturing
1213 a National Junior College Championship as a member of the school's
1314 track and field squad; he went on to earn an athletic scholarship to
1415 attend the University of Alabama, where he received his bachelor's
1516 degree in chemistry and biology; and
1617 WHEREAS, A successful businessman and entrepreneur,
1718 Mr. Stewart started his own construction company in Odessa and
1819 eventually expanded his interests in real estate development to
1920 include infrastructure projects across the state and nation, as
2021 well as overseas; he established a number of prosperous enterprises
2122 throughout his career, such as the Armadillo Boring Company, Great
2223 Plains Water Supply, Capitan Enterprises, and Capitol Trencher,
2324 among others; and
2425 WHEREAS, Mr. Stewart was joined in marriage to the former
2526 Suzanne Miller, and they shared four and a half decades together; he
2627 was the proud father of four children, Joseph, Jamison, Julianna,
2728 and Hunter, and he eventually knew the joy of welcoming into his
2829 family 10 grandchildren; in his leisure time, he enjoyed sailing,
2930 skiing, hiking, and myriad other outdoor activities, as well as
3031 pursuing his passion for music and songwriting; and
3132 WHEREAS, Mr. Stewart shared his time and talents with a
3233 number of worthwhile organizations, including Heart Gift, the Boy
3334 Scouts of America, the Texas Heritage Songwriters Association, the
3435 Texas Heart Institute, and the Texas Commission on the Arts;
3536 moreover, Mr. Stewart was a longtime advocate for private
3637 landowners and property rights in the State of Texas; and
3738 WHEREAS, A man who derived great pleasure from new challenges
3839 and adventures, Ted Stewart lived life to the fullest, and he will
3940 forever be a source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now,
4041 therefore, be it
4142 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4243 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Teddy Lee Stewart
4344 and extend sincere condolences to his family: to his wife, Suzy
4445 Stewart; to his children, Joseph Stewart and his wife, Allison,
4546 Jamison Stewart, Julianna Tinney and her husband, Brad, and Hunter
4647 Stewart and his wife, Megan; to his grandchildren, Abigail,
4748 Harrison, Emma, Madeline, Amelia, and Lila Stewart, and Townsend,
4849 Theodore, Miller, and Baker Tinney; to his sister, Susan Scherra,
4950 and her husband, David; to his brother, Gary Stewart, and his wife,
5051 Vicki; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
5152 further
5253 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5354 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5455 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ted
5556 Stewart.
