8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born to Kenneth and Josephine Stewart on July 30, |

9 | 10 | | 1947, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Ted Stewart moved to Odessa with |

10 | 11 | | his family at an early age; he was a standout athlete at Permian |
---|
11 | 12 | | High School before enrolling at Odessa Junior College and capturing |
---|
12 | 13 | | a National Junior College Championship as a member of the school's |
---|
13 | 14 | | track and field squad; he went on to earn an athletic scholarship to |
---|
14 | 15 | | attend the University of Alabama, where he received his bachelor's |
---|
15 | 16 | | degree in chemistry and biology; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A successful businessman and entrepreneur, |
---|
17 | 18 | | Mr. Stewart started his own construction company in Odessa and |
---|
18 | 19 | | eventually expanded his interests in real estate development to |
---|
19 | 20 | | include infrastructure projects across the state and nation, as |
---|
20 | 21 | | well as overseas; he established a number of prosperous enterprises |
---|
21 | 22 | | throughout his career, such as the Armadillo Boring Company, Great |
---|
22 | 23 | | Plains Water Supply, Capitan Enterprises, and Capitol Trencher, |
---|
23 | 24 | | among others; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Stewart was joined in marriage to the former |
---|
25 | 26 | | Suzanne Miller, and they shared four and a half decades together; he |
---|
26 | 27 | | was the proud father of four children, Joseph, Jamison, Julianna, |
---|
27 | 28 | | and Hunter, and he eventually knew the joy of welcoming into his |
---|
28 | 29 | | family 10 grandchildren; in his leisure time, he enjoyed sailing, |
---|
29 | 30 | | skiing, hiking, and myriad other outdoor activities, as well as |
---|
30 | 31 | | pursuing his passion for music and songwriting; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Stewart shared his time and talents with a |
---|
32 | 33 | | number of worthwhile organizations, including Heart Gift, the Boy |
---|
33 | 34 | | Scouts of America, the Texas Heritage Songwriters Association, the |
---|
34 | 35 | | Texas Heart Institute, and the Texas Commission on the Arts; |
---|
35 | 36 | | moreover, Mr. Stewart was a longtime advocate for private |
---|
36 | 37 | | landowners and property rights in the State of Texas; and |
---|
37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, A man who derived great pleasure from new challenges |

38 | 39 | | and adventures, Ted Stewart lived life to the fullest, and he will |

39 | 40 | | forever be a source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, |

42 | 43 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Teddy Lee Stewart |
