| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, No words can diminish the pain caused by a life cut |

| 7 | 8 | | Frances Corgey may find comfort in their treasured memories of this |

| 8 | 9 | | special young woman, who passed away on January 22, 2015, at the age |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Born in Houston on March 19, 1987, Ms. Corgey |

| 11 | 12 | | attended the University of Houston; she worked at the Houston SPCA |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | and wrote articles for the UH newspaper, The Cougar, on a wide |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | variety of issues, from health awareness to tuition increases; |

| 14 | 15 | | while completing her bachelor's degree in political science and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | government, she served as a campaign volunteer for Texas State |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Representative Armando Walle, and she later became a constituent |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | services intern in his Houston office; she went on to earn a |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | master's degree in political science and government from Texas |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | State University; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Corgey suffered from asthma, which was |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | aggravated by urban pollution, and she became deeply committed to |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | improving the health of the environment; in the summer of 2012, she |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | joined the Texas office of Public Citizen in Austin as an intern, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | and her outstanding research skills proved especially valuable to |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | the organization, which eventually hired her as a full-time staff |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | member; she worked tirelessly as an advocate for environmental |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | justice, giving testimony at hearings and speaking to groups about |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | the effects of poor air quality; in addition, she analyzed data, |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | wrote reports and successful grants, and drafted legislation, among |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | other contributions; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Hillary Corgey devoted herself to making a positive |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | difference in the world around her, and her compassion and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | determination will remain a source of tremendous inspiration to all |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | who knew her; now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Hillary Frances |
