45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, No words can diminish the pain caused by a life cut
67 short, but all who shared in the love and friendship of Hillary
78 Frances Corgey may find comfort in their treasured memories of this
89 special young woman, who passed away on January 22, 2015, at the age
910 of 27; and
1011 WHEREAS, Born in Houston on March 19, 1987, Ms. Corgey
1112 attended the University of Houston; she worked at the Houston SPCA
1213 and wrote articles for the UH newspaper, The Cougar, on a wide
1314 variety of issues, from health awareness to tuition increases;
1415 while completing her bachelor's degree in political science and
1516 government, she served as a campaign volunteer for Texas State
1617 Representative Armando Walle, and she later became a constituent
1718 services intern in his Houston office; she went on to earn a
1819 master's degree in political science and government from Texas
1920 State University; and
2021 WHEREAS, Ms. Corgey suffered from asthma, which was
2122 aggravated by urban pollution, and she became deeply committed to
2223 improving the health of the environment; in the summer of 2012, she
2324 joined the Texas office of Public Citizen in Austin as an intern,
2425 and her outstanding research skills proved especially valuable to
2526 the organization, which eventually hired her as a full-time staff
2627 member; she worked tirelessly as an advocate for environmental
2728 justice, giving testimony at hearings and speaking to groups about
2829 the effects of poor air quality; in addition, she analyzed data,
2930 wrote reports and successful grants, and drafted legislation, among
3031 other contributions; and
3132 WHEREAS, Hillary Corgey devoted herself to making a positive
3233 difference in the world around her, and her compassion and
3334 determination will remain a source of tremendous inspiration to all
3435 who knew her; now, therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3637 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Hillary Frances
3738 Corgey and extend sincere condolences to her parents, Toni and
3839 David Nichols; to her grandfather, Leldon James Corgey Sr.; and to
3940 her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4243 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hillary
4344 Corgey.
