| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |

| 6 | 7 | | memories of George Houston Parker of Runaway Bay, who passed away on |

| 7 | 8 | | August 1, 2014, at the age of 77; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, George Parker was born on September 25, 1936, in |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Oklahoma City, to Merl and Stella Parker; a member of the Texas |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | National Guard during high school, Mr. Parker served in the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve from 1956 to 1961; he graduated |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | from Texas Tech University and went on to enjoy a distinguished |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | 34-year career with IBM in California before his retirement in |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | 1995; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Bettye Ferguson; the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | couple married in 2001, and two years later they moved to the Lone |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Star State to make their home in Runaway Bay; Mr. Parker was the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | proud father of two daughters, Tammy and Melanie, and he later |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | became a devoted stepfather to his stepson, Mike, and stepdaughter, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Karen; over the years, he knew the joy of welcoming 13 grandchildren |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and 11 great-grandchildren into his cherished family; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Active in a number of worthwhile organizations and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | causes, this esteemed gentleman volunteered extensively with the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Republican Party in both California and Texas and also assisted the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Republican Women of Wise County; he and his wife Bettye traveled |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | widely, and he also enjoyed golfing and fishing; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, George Parker lived a life that was rich in the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | intangibles that matter most, and he is deeply missed by all who |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | were blessed to share in his love and affection; now, therefore, be |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | it |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of George Houston |

| 35 | 35 | | Parker and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to |

| 36 | 36 | | his wife, Bettye Parker; to his daughter, Melanie Parker; to his |

| 37 | 37 | | stepson, Mike Ferguson; to his stepdaughter, Karen Shadden; to his |

| 38 | 38 | | grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives |
