| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Don Allen Poovey is retiring as the assistant fire |

| 6 | 7 | | chief of Rowlett Fire Rescue on March 31, 2015, concluding 34 years |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | of outstanding service to the community; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born and raised in Rowlett, Don Poovey joined |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Rowlett Fire Rescue as a volunteer firefighter in 1981 at the age of |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | 18 and was the second career firefighter to be hired by the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | department; he became a fire medic later that year, and he was |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | appointed a lieutenant in 1984; promoted to captain in 1991, he was |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | twice chosen to lead the department as interim fire chief, and he |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | has been assistant chief since February 2000; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Poovey holds certifications as an |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | advanced firefighter, intermediate instructor, and fire inspector |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection; he has been |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | recognized on numerous occasions for his dedicated efforts in the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | line of duty, receiving the Fire Officer of the Year, Supervisor of |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | the Year, and Rowlett Employee of the Year honors as well as the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Fire Department Outstanding Service Award; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Assistant Chief Poovey enjoys |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | the love and support of his wife, Lisa, his children, Ashley and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Jacob, and his grandson, Alex; in retirement, he plans to spend more |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | time working on home improvement projects and traveling the |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | country; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure with Rowlett Fire Rescue, Don |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Poovey has demonstrated exemplary leadership while devoting |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | himself to protecting the lives and property of his fellow |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | citizens, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a distinguished |

| 31 | 32 | | career; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Don Allen Poovey on his retirement |
