R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 35th annual Denton Arts and Jazz Festival is
taking place April 24 through 26, 2015, at Quakertown Park in
Denton; and
WHEREAS, Inaugurated in 1980, this highly anticipated event
features seven stages hosting more than 3,000 performers that range
from professional ensembles to community, school, and university
groups showcasing jazz and big band styles as well as dance and
choral works; in addition, it includes arts and crafts exhibitions
and other family-friendly attractions; and
WHEREAS, The weekend is made possible through the efforts of
the Denton Festival Foundation, which is dedicated to the
preservation and appreciation of visual and performing arts and to
supporting a number of local cultural institutions, including the
Campus Theatre and the Center for the Visual Arts; and
WHEREAS, In making the Denton festival free of charge to the
public, the foundation underscores its commitment to promoting
greater access to the cultural arts in the broader community;
moreover, it encourages and assists in the education of young
artists and provides a showcase for musicians from the Denton area
to present their work; and
WHEREAS, The Denton Arts and Jazz Festival immeasurably
contributes to the cultural richness of the Lone Star State, and
this outstanding event and the people who make it happen are indeed
deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 35th annual Denton Arts and Jazz
Festival and commend the members of the Denton Festival Foundation
for their admirable work; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
