| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The 35th annual Denton Arts and Jazz Festival is |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Inaugurated in 1980, this highly anticipated event |

| 9 | 10 | | features seven stages hosting more than 3,000 performers that range |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | from professional ensembles to community, school, and university |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | groups showcasing jazz and big band styles as well as dance and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | choral works; in addition, it includes arts and crafts exhibitions |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | and other family-friendly attractions; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The weekend is made possible through the efforts of |

| 15 | 16 | | the Denton Festival Foundation, which is dedicated to the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | preservation and appreciation of visual and performing arts and to |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | supporting a number of local cultural institutions, including the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Campus Theatre and the Center for the Visual Arts; and |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In making the Denton festival free of charge to the |

| 20 | 21 | | public, the foundation underscores its commitment to promoting |

| 21 | 22 | | greater access to the cultural arts in the broader community; |

| 22 | 23 | | moreover, it encourages and assists in the education of young |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | artists and provides a showcase for musicians from the Denton area |

| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The Denton Arts and Jazz Festival immeasurably |

| 26 | 27 | | contributes to the cultural richness of the Lone Star State, and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | this outstanding event and the people who make it happen are indeed |

| 28 | 29 | | deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 35th annual Denton Arts and Jazz |

| 31 | 32 | | Festival and commend the members of the Denton Festival Foundation |
