| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Each year, Texans join in celebrating the Fourth of |

| 7 | 8 | | the landmark documents of modern history, the Declaration of |

|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Independence Day gatherings are a beloved American |

| 10 | 11 | | tradition, one that brings together citizens of many different |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | backgrounds and that fosters a welcome sense of community; at such |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | times, the Stars and Stripes waves proudly as individuals across |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | the country pause to reflect on the ideals that undergird the great |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | American experiment, a government of the people, by the people, and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | for the people; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The dream envisioned by this nation's founders has |

| 17 | 18 | | not been secured without tremendous cost; from the colonial |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | militias who skirmished with muskets to the brave men and women who |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | serve today in the world's most sophisticated fighting force, the |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | sacrifices of our troops have been extraordinary; we can never |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | fully repay the debt owed to our military personnel for the service |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | they have rendered or to their families for the deprivations they |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | have endured; nonetheless, on this special day we extend our |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | heartfelt gratitude and profound respect to those on the front |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | lines and to their loved ones on the home front; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The Fourth of July serves as a reminder of the solemn |

| 27 | 28 | | promise of freedom that has defined America since the delegates of |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | the Continental Congress made their famous declaration in 1776; as |

| 29 | 30 | | Texans gather to celebrate Independence Day in 2016, we will give |

| 30 | 31 | | thanks for the blessing of self-government and pledge anew to |

| 31 | 32 | | uphold the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | happiness, axioms so eloquently affirmed at the birth of our |

| 33 | 34 | | nation; now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
