 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Santos Lujan Jr. has made invaluable contributions
 to the field of education during his years as a teacher and
 administrator; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Lujan earned his diploma in 1967 from Big Spring
 High School, where he was a saxophonist in the Steer Band, and he
 went on to graduate with bachelor's and master's degrees in music
 education from West Texas State University; and
 WHEREAS, In 1972, Mr. Lujan began his career as an assistant
 band director at Big Lake High School, and he soon advanced to head
 director; he was named director of bands for Raymondville ISD in
 1977, and over the course of his 15-year tenure in that position, he
 was instrumental in the dramatic expansion of the program and in the
 notable success of the Bearkat Band, which consistently earned
 first division ratings at University Interscholastic League
 concert and sight-reading contests as well as festival competitions
 across the state; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Lujan was promoted to assistant superintendent
 for business and operations in 1993, and four years later, he was
 named superintendent of Raymondville ISD; he also served as
 superintendent of the Kermit and Culberson County-Allamoore school
 districts and as principal of Presidio High School; and
 WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Lujan has received
 well-deserved recognition for his achievements; he was selected for
 the Region 18 Superintendent of the Year Award and was a finalist
 for Texas Superintendent of the Year, and he was also inducted into
 the Rio Grande Valley Band Director Hall of Fame in 2013; and
 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Lujan is blessed with
 the love and support of his wife, Mary Lou Lujan, and he takes great
 pride in his two children, Santos and Adrianna, and two
 granddaughters, Amorie and AnnaLee; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has devoted his professional
 life to public education, and he has made a positive difference in
 the lives of countless individuals; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby commend Santos Lujan Jr. for his career in
 education and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Lujan as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
