45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Santos Lujan Jr. has made invaluable contributions
67 to the field of education during his years as a teacher and
78 administrator; and
89 WHEREAS, Mr. Lujan earned his diploma in 1967 from Big Spring
910 High School, where he was a saxophonist in the Steer Band, and he
1011 went on to graduate with bachelor's and master's degrees in music
1112 education from West Texas State University; and
1213 WHEREAS, In 1972, Mr. Lujan began his career as an assistant
1314 band director at Big Lake High School, and he soon advanced to head
1415 director; he was named director of bands for Raymondville ISD in
1516 1977, and over the course of his 15-year tenure in that position, he
1617 was instrumental in the dramatic expansion of the program and in the
1718 notable success of the Bearkat Band, which consistently earned
1819 first division ratings at University Interscholastic League
1920 concert and sight-reading contests as well as festival competitions
2021 across the state; and
2122 WHEREAS, Mr. Lujan was promoted to assistant superintendent
2223 for business and operations in 1993, and four years later, he was
2324 named superintendent of Raymondville ISD; he also served as
2425 superintendent of the Kermit and Culberson County-Allamoore school
2526 districts and as principal of Presidio High School; and
2627 WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Lujan has received
2728 well-deserved recognition for his achievements; he was selected for
2829 the Region 18 Superintendent of the Year Award and was a finalist
2930 for Texas Superintendent of the Year, and he was also inducted into
3031 the Rio Grande Valley Band Director Hall of Fame in 2013; and
3132 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Lujan is blessed with
3233 the love and support of his wife, Mary Lou Lujan, and he takes great
3334 pride in his two children, Santos and Adrianna, and two
3435 granddaughters, Amorie and AnnaLee; and
3536 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has devoted his professional
3637 life to public education, and he has made a positive difference in
3738 the lives of countless individuals; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby commend Santos Lujan Jr. for his career in
4041 education and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and,
4142 be it further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for Mr. Lujan as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4445 House of Representatives.
