5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County has |

6 | 7 | | sought to provide a safe haven for victims of child abuse for more |

7 | 8 | | than two decades; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A project of the local Junior League, the Children's |
---|
9 | 10 | | Advocacy Center of Collin County opened its doors in 1992 and has |
---|
10 | 11 | | since helped more than 50,000 young Texans suffering from abuse or |
---|
11 | 12 | | neglect; the center's highly trained staff members perform forensic |
---|
12 | 13 | | interviews and medical evaluations in a comfortable and safe |
---|
13 | 14 | | environment, recording each interview to ensure that children only |
---|
14 | 15 | | have to tell their stories once; they also coordinate with law |
---|
15 | 16 | | enforcement, child protective services, and the district |
---|
16 | 17 | | attorney's office to facilitate the investigation of child abuse |
---|
17 | 18 | | cases; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Children and families receive continued support |
---|
19 | 20 | | after the interview process through the center's counseling |
---|
20 | 21 | | services; specializing in trauma-informed treatment, |
---|
21 | 22 | | board-certified staff members offer therapy free of charge, and the |
---|
22 | 23 | | sessions are tailored to meet the unique needs of each client, with |
---|
23 | 24 | | bilingual therapy available for those who require it; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In addition to providing these invaluable services, |
---|
25 | 26 | | the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County has established and |
---|
26 | 27 | | supported a variety of other programs designed to protect children; |
---|
27 | 28 | | the center offers educators, professionals, and civic groups |
---|
28 | 29 | | workshops on abuse indicators and Internet safety, and adults can |
---|
29 | 30 | | learn how to prevent abuse through the Darkness to Light's Stewards |
---|
30 | 31 | | of Children training; the Family Assistance Program helps those |
---|
31 | 32 | | affected by abuse with rent, food, and transportation as well as |
---|
32 | 33 | | applications for additional financial support; furthermore, the |
---|
33 | 34 | | center's Rainbow Room serves as an emergency resource for children |
---|
34 | 35 | | in crisis, giving caseworkers immediate access to such essential |
---|
35 | 36 | | items as clothing, shoes, and hygiene products for their clients at |
---|
36 | 37 | | no cost; and |
---|
37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Children's Advocacy Center |
---|
38 | 39 | | of Collin County has made a positive difference in the lives of many |
---|
39 | 40 | | of the area's most vulnerable citizens, and it is indeed a privilege |
---|
40 | 41 | | to honor the center's critical efforts to rescue children from |
---|
41 | 42 | | abusive situations; now, therefore, be it |
---|
42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
---|
43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby commend the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin |
---|
44 | 45 | | County for its commitment to creating a better, safer future for |
---|
45 | 46 | | Texas children and extend to all those associated with the center |
---|
46 | 47 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |

47 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

48 | 49 | | prepared for the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County as an |

49 | 50 | | expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
