No. 651 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends of Dr. David Howell McCarley of McKinney, who passed away on January 4, 2015, at the age of 61; and WHEREAS, David McCarley was born in Austin on September 2, 1953, to L. B. McCarley and Mary Ann Van Landingham-McCarley; he graduated from McKinney High School in 1971 and went on to become a loyal Red Raider fan while earning a bachelor's degree in microbiology from Texas Tech University; after working at Texas Tech and the University of Arizona, he attended the Baylor College of Dentistry, where he obtained his doctoral degree in dental surgery in 1981; and WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, Dr. McCarley owned and operated McCarley Restorative and Cosmetic Family Dentistry in McKinney; his wealth of knowledge and experience, along with his kindness and compassion, served many in the community well over the years; and WHEREAS, Dr. McCarley further benefited his professional peers through his involvement in a variety of dental organizations; he served with the Texas Dental Association for many years and was the youngest member elected to the board of directors, and, in May 2014, he was named president of the organization; in addition, he shared his expertise as president of the Fourth District Dental Society in North Texas and served on the 2008 American Dental Association Council on Ethics, Bylaws, and Judicial Affairs; his charitable spirit and devotion to his community led him to volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, the Kiwanis Club, and Ducks Unlimited, and he was also a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in McKinney; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. McCarley enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Lee Ann; the couple enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles, and they delighted in spending time together at their farm, The ToothAchers Ranch; and WHEREAS, While the passing of David McCarley brings great sadness to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. David Howell McCarley and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Lee Ann McCarley; to his children, Kristi Kendall, Joe McCarley, Wesley Layton, Nick McCarley, and Jenny McCarley and her husband, Justin Appleby; to his siblings, Dana Pennington, Kevin McCarley and his wife, Jennifer, Brian McCarley, and Susan McCarley and her fiancé, Steve Smith; to his mother, Mary Ann McCarley; to his grandchildren, Hunter, Savannah, and Abigail Kendall, and Rylee Layton; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. David Howell McCarley.
