| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, April 9, 2016, will mark the 10th anniversary of the |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The largest public protest in the city's history, |

| 8 | 9 | | the Mega March drew between 350,000 and 500,000 participants who |

| 9 | 10 | | joined together in support of immigration reform; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, This powerful but peaceful gathering was sponsored |

| 11 | 12 | | by LULAC and a coalition of Dallas-area groups, and it was attended |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | by throngs of people who trod the mile-long parade route in the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | city's downtown; wearing white and carrying signs and American |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | flags, marchers highlighted the positive economic impact that |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | immigrants have on the U.S. economy and promoted changes that would |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | allow foreign workers an easier means of gaining legal status and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | citizenship; and |

| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Taking place at a crucial time in the nation's |

| 19 | 20 | | history, the Dallas event was part of a series of rallies that |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The Mega March offered further proof that concerned |

| 23 | 24 | | Texans, Hispanics and non-Hispanics alike, were committed to |

| 24 | 25 | | voicing their opinions in the immigration debate; that spirit of |

| 25 | 26 | | civic involvement remains strong, and it continues to influence |

| 26 | 27 | | ongoing discussions about a range of important issues, thereby |

| 27 | 28 | | strengthening the vital traditions of free speech and political |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | activism in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
