5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Conner Harrington Republican Women of |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Organized in the home of Gladys Harrington in 1971, |

9 | 10 | | this group of concerned citizens had 16 original members, united by |

10 | 11 | | a vision of small government and individual liberty and |

11 | 12 | | responsibility; the club was named for the late Conner Harrington, |
---|
12 | 13 | | who served as mayor of Plano and as a member of the State Republican |
---|
13 | 14 | | Executive Committee; and |

14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The Conner Harrington Republican Women began |
---|
15 | 16 | | holding night meetings to allow working mothers to attend, and they |
---|
16 | 17 | | conducted all business in an open format to ensure that everyone |
---|
17 | 18 | | could participate; the club has won awards from the National and |
---|
18 | 19 | | Texas Federations of Republican Women, and its members have gone on |
---|
19 | 20 | | to win elected office and serve at the highest levels in the state |
---|
20 | 21 | | federation and in the Republican Party of Texas; and |

21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, During a busy and productive 2014, the Conner |

22 | 23 | | Harrington Republican Women completed a number of projects for the |
---|
23 | 24 | | TFRW Caring for America program and delivered books for the Mamie |
---|
24 | 25 | | Eisenhower Library Project; in addition, the club funded |
---|
25 | 26 | | scholarships in support of women's education and organized efforts |

26 | 27 | | to keep its members informed about a variety of important political |
---|
27 | 28 | | and social issues; and |

28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of current president Andrea |

29 | 30 | | Stroh Thompson, members of the Conner Harrington Republican Women |

30 | 31 | | are making a lasting difference through their grassroots political |

31 | 32 | | activism, and they may take justifiable pride in their rich history |

32 | 33 | | of civic engagement and their reputation for vitality, |

33 | 34 | | congeniality, and camaraderie; now, therefore, be it |

34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby honor the Conner Harrington Republican Women for |

36 | 37 | | their many years of service and extend to them sincere best wishes |
