| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1946, The Links is a volunteer service |

| 8 | 9 | | organization for professional women who are committed to enriching |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | the culture of African Americans and other persons of African |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | ancestry and improving their economic status; it has a membership |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | of nearly 14,000 in 280 chapters across the country and in the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Commonwealth of the Bahamas; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The business and civic leaders, mentors, role |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | models, and activists of this nonprofit corporation volunteer more |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | than 500,000 hours annually in projects to strengthen their |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | communities and make a positive difference in the lives of others; |

| 17 | 18 | | through the years, the group has received awards from such |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | organizations as the United Nations Association of New York and the |

| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The Western Area of The Links includes 2,000 members |

| 21 | 22 | | in 55 chapters; these dedicated women work in behalf of children, |

| 23 | 24 | | California Davis Women's Cardiovascular Medicine Program, the |

| 24 | 25 | | Mayme A. Clayton Library and Museum, historically black colleges, |

| 25 | 26 | | and Habitat for Humanity; Bullying, Trashtalking: It's No Joke, |

| 26 | 27 | | another of the important initiatives of the Western Area, empowers |

| 27 | 28 | | youth with skills to address offending behavior; and |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The members of The Links have demonstrated |

|---|
