 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
 death of John S. Marshall of The Colony on March 11, 2014, at the age
 of 74; and
 WHEREAS, Born to Virginia and John L. Marshall in Los
 Angeles, California, in 1939, John S. Marshall grew up on his
 family's farm in Sherman and graduated from Sherman High School in
 1958; after studying at Austin College for two years, he entered the
 U.S. Naval Academy in 1960; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall completed nuclear power training and
 submarine school, and he qualified for submarine service aboard the
 USS Threadfin; he went on to be a member of the commissioning crew
 of the USS Grayling and served as the navigator of the USS John
 Adams; after retiring from active service in 1974, he continued to
 serve in the Naval Reserve, commanding two reserve units and
 retiring at the rank of captain in 1994; and
 WHEREAS, In civilian life, Mr. Marshall joined the Bechtel
 Power Corporation in California in 1974, and he returned to Texas in
 1979 to work for TXU at the Comanche Peak nuclear power station,
 serving as the facility's licensing manager for 18 years; after
 retiring from TXU in 1998, he served as a consultant on nuclear
 power plant licensing before going on to work at MessagePhone,
 Inc., beginning in 2000 and later at Certrec Corporation of Fort
 Worth; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall was a prominent figure in his
 community, serving on The Colony City Council from 2006 to 2009 and
 as a member and president of the Stewart Peninsula Homeowners
 Association; he was also active in his church, participating in the
 men's ministry and working as the congregation's sound technician;
 and
 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Marshall enjoyed the love
 and support of his wife, Cindy, with whom he shared a rewarding
 marriage that spanned more than 15 years; he was a caring father to
 his two sons, Jonathan and Vernon, and to Cindy's two daughters,
 Michelle and Melissa, who he loved as his own; and
 WHEREAS, An engaged citizen, a caring family man, and an
 accomplished naval officer and professional, John Marshall leaves
 behind a legacy of good works that will long be remembered and
 admired; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John S. Marshall and
 extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
 wife, Cindy Marshall; to his sons, Jonathan Marshall and Vernon
 Marshall; to his daughters, Michelle Clay and Melissa Workley; to
 his eight grandchildren, Lauren Clay, Ryan Marshall, Caroline
 Workley, Reagan Marshall, Jackson Clay, Ryleigh Marshall,
 Christopher Workley, and Henry Marshall; and to his other relatives
 and many friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John S.
 Marshall.
