| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Leadership Southwest Class of 2015 |

| 6 | 7 | | are visiting the State Capitol on March 18, 2015, to gain further |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, An initiative of the communities of southwest Dallas |

| 9 | 10 | | County, Leadership Southwest had 23 participants in its inaugural |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | class of 1985, and over the ensuing 30 years it has graduated more |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | than 1,000 civic-minded individuals; the organization is a |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | cooperative effort sponsored by the Cedar Hill, DeSoto, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Duncanville, Lancaster, and Oak Cliff Chambers of Commerce that |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | works to develop tomorrow's leaders and inspire the spirit of |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | activism for the public good; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The nine-month program involves discussions with |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | area leaders on critical issues facing the community and seminars |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | on topics such as education, law enforcement, the arts, government, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | economic growth, health, and transportation; many participants go |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | on to serve their fellow Texans on the boards of schools, hospitals, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | and other institutions or through elected offices; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, One highlight of the program is a legislative day |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | that is held in collaboration with the Best Southwest Partnership, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | an organization representing 12 cities and many area chambers of |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | commerce, school districts, and businesses that work together to |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | encourage regional prosperity; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Endeavoring to foster a more informed and involved |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | citizenry and to develop new leaders, Leadership Southwest is |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | helping build a brighter future for the Lone Star State; now, |

| 30 | 31 | | therefore, be it |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 18, 2015, as Leadership |
