5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Garland Chamber of Commerce are |

8 | 9 | | organization and the city it serves; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, For more than 120 years, the Garland chamber has |

10 | 11 | | worked to ensure the economic vitality of Garland; when the city |

11 | 12 | | needed to broaden its economic base beyond agriculture in the |
---|
12 | 13 | | mid-20th century, the chamber recruited a variety of companies that |
---|
13 | 14 | | have since expanded to become such world-famous enterprises as |
---|
14 | 15 | | General Dynamics Corporation, Raytheon Company, Hatco Corporation, |
---|
15 | 16 | | and Kraft Foods Group, Inc., and KARLEE and Garrett Metal |
---|
16 | 17 | | Detectors, which grew from shops in garages to internationally |
---|
17 | 18 | | renowned industry leaders, and are among the nearly 400 |
---|
18 | 19 | | manufacturing enterprises located in Garland today; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Garland chamber is the creator of a variety of |
---|
20 | 21 | | programs to support small businesses, manufacturing companies, |
---|
21 | 22 | | retail firms, and the local education system, acting on the |
---|
22 | 23 | | principle that success in each of these areas depends on success in |
---|
23 | 24 | | all of them; the chamber is the founder of the Garland Education |

24 | 25 | | Foundation and the first chamber of commerce to host an office of |
---|
25 | 26 | | the Small Business Development Center, and it has actively |
---|
26 | 27 | | participated in the development of the Dallas County Manufacturers' |
---|
27 | 28 | | Association, the Women's Business E-nitiative, and Leadership |
---|
28 | 29 | | Garland; and |

29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Garland has become the fifth largest city in the |

30 | 31 | | Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and one of the fastest growing regions |

31 | 32 | | in the nation, home to nearly 235,000 residents and rated among the |

32 | 33 | | top 100 best places in the country in which to live by CNN and Money |

33 | 34 | | magazine in 2008; the chamber is an essential member of the Garland |

34 | 35 | | Economic Development Partnership, which has been responsible for |

35 | 36 | | the creation and retention of more than 18,000 jobs and a $1.8 |

36 | 37 | | billion tax base in the city; and |

37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Operating under the acronym PRIDE, for Passion, |

38 | 39 | | Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Excellence, the Garland |

39 | 40 | | Chamber of Commerce has been a dynamic and inspiring "connecting |

40 | 41 | | source" in its community, and it is indeed deserving of recognition |

41 | 42 | | for the vital role it has played in this Lone Star success story; |
