5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Ruffner Perry Baugh of Rockport on February 2, 2015, at |

7 | 8 | | the age of 91; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ruffner Baugh was born on November 21, 1923, in |
---|
9 | 10 | | Asheville, North Carolina, to George Herman Baugh Sr. and Lena |
---|
10 | 11 | | Mabel Whitfield; raised in Charlotte, he went on to pursue his |
---|
11 | 12 | | higher education at Duke University; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty during World War |
---|
13 | 14 | | II, Mr. Baugh interrupted his studies at Duke in November 1942 to |
---|
14 | 15 | | enlist in the Army Air Corps and train as a bomber pilot; he flew |
---|
15 | 16 | | combat missions over Europe during the Ardennes counteroffensive, |
---|
16 | 17 | | and he earned two Bronze Stars and the ETO Ribbon; following the |
---|
17 | 18 | | war, he served in the Air Force Officers' Reserve Corps until 1955, |
---|
18 | 19 | | and he would occasionally fly over his home and wiggle the wings of |
---|
19 | 20 | | his plane to say hello to his loved ones below; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, After returning to civilian life, Mr. Baugh joined |
---|
21 | 22 | | Chance Vought Aircraft in Connecticut, and he transferred to the |
---|
22 | 23 | | company's Dallas office in 1949; he continued to work for the |
---|
23 | 24 | | enterprise, which later became LTV Corporation, for 38 years, |
---|
24 | 25 | | reaching the position of head of production planning; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In retirement, Mr. Baugh and his second wife, |
---|
26 | 27 | | Patricia, whom he married in 1975, sold their home in Dallas, bought |
---|
27 | 28 | | a trailer, and set off on a five-year road trip that took them all |
---|
28 | 29 | | across the nation, from coast to coast and from Florida to Alaska; |
---|
29 | 30 | | they eventually settled in Rockport; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, "Ruff" Baugh loved gardening and the Dallas Cowboys, |
---|
31 | 32 | | and he delighted in the accomplishments of his grandchildren; a |
---|
32 | 33 | | lively and energetic man, he could roller-skate and ride a bicycle |
---|
33 | 34 | | backwards into his 60s, and in his 80s, he was still a fierce |
---|
34 | 35 | | competitor on the tennis court; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, A loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, |
---|
36 | 37 | | and a proud veteran of World War II, Ruff Baugh lived life to the |
---|
37 | 38 | | fullest, and memories of his time on this earth will continue to |
---|
38 | 39 | | inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
---|
40 | 41 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ruffner Perry Baugh |

41 | 42 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |

42 | 43 | | wife, Patricia Baugh; to his son, Philip Baugh, and his wife, Mimi; |

43 | 44 | | to his grandson, Nicholas Baugh; to his granddaughter, Kristin |

44 | 45 | | Carona, and her husband, Jeff; to his great-grandson, Maxwell |

45 | 46 | | Carona; to his brother, Bob Baugh; to his stepchildren, Diane and |
