45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Ruffner Perry Baugh of Rockport on February 2, 2015, at
78 the age of 91; and
89 WHEREAS, Ruffner Baugh was born on November 21, 1923, in
910 Asheville, North Carolina, to George Herman Baugh Sr. and Lena
1011 Mabel Whitfield; raised in Charlotte, he went on to pursue his
1112 higher education at Duke University; and
1213 WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty during World War
1314 II, Mr. Baugh interrupted his studies at Duke in November 1942 to
1415 enlist in the Army Air Corps and train as a bomber pilot; he flew
1516 combat missions over Europe during the Ardennes counteroffensive,
1617 and he earned two Bronze Stars and the ETO Ribbon; following the
1718 war, he served in the Air Force Officers' Reserve Corps until 1955,
1819 and he would occasionally fly over his home and wiggle the wings of
1920 his plane to say hello to his loved ones below; and
2021 WHEREAS, After returning to civilian life, Mr. Baugh joined
2122 Chance Vought Aircraft in Connecticut, and he transferred to the
2223 company's Dallas office in 1949; he continued to work for the
2324 enterprise, which later became LTV Corporation, for 38 years,
2425 reaching the position of head of production planning; and
2526 WHEREAS, In retirement, Mr. Baugh and his second wife,
2627 Patricia, whom he married in 1975, sold their home in Dallas, bought
2728 a trailer, and set off on a five-year road trip that took them all
2829 across the nation, from coast to coast and from Florida to Alaska;
2930 they eventually settled in Rockport; and
3031 WHEREAS, "Ruff" Baugh loved gardening and the Dallas Cowboys,
3132 and he delighted in the accomplishments of his grandchildren; a
3233 lively and energetic man, he could roller-skate and ride a bicycle
3334 backwards into his 60s, and in his 80s, he was still a fierce
3435 competitor on the tennis court; and
3536 WHEREAS, A loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather,
3637 and a proud veteran of World War II, Ruff Baugh lived life to the
3738 fullest, and memories of his time on this earth will continue to
3839 inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4041 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ruffner Perry Baugh
4142 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
4243 wife, Patricia Baugh; to his son, Philip Baugh, and his wife, Mimi;
4344 to his grandson, Nicholas Baugh; to his granddaughter, Kristin
4445 Carona, and her husband, Jeff; to his great-grandson, Maxwell
4546 Carona; to his brother, Bob Baugh; to his stepchildren, Diane and
4647 Darrell; to his step-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and
4748 friends; and, be it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5051 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ruffner
5152 Perry Baugh.
