| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Catholic Charities of Dallas has provided a helping |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1941, Catholic Charities of Dallas offers |

| 8 | 9 | | assistance to people of every race, religion, and national origin, |

| 9 | 10 | | with the goal of helping them achieve self-sufficiency; the group's |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | efforts extend to disadvantaged families and other vulnerable |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | individuals throughout the nine counties that make up the Diocese |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | of Dallas; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Through its Immigration and Legal Services Program, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Catholic Charities of Dallas advocates for persons and families |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | seeking American citizenship by helping to guide them through the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | immigration process; caseworkers for the organization make clients |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | aware of their rights and various aspects of immigration law while |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | assisting them with obtaining family visas, representing victims of |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | domestic abuse and violent crime, and supporting custodians of |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | unaccompanied children; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Volunteers and professionals for Catholic Charities |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | of Dallas also work diligently to resettle refugees who have left |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | their home country behind to seek asylum in the Dallas area; the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | refugee resettlement program relies on donations of household items |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | and furniture from the public to furnish apartments, where refugees |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | can have a safe place to live upon arriving in Dallas; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Catholic Charities of Dallas has remained steadfast |

| 28 | 29 | | in its commitment to providing area residents with the support and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | direction they need to secure a bright future for themselves, and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | the organization has made a positive and lasting difference in many |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | lives; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commend the efforts of Catholic Charities of |
