| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Melissa McWherter of Liberty Hill Junior High School |

| 6 | 7 | | has been named VFW Teacher of the Year for District 28; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A history teacher, Ms. McWherter coordinated a |

| 8 | 9 | | Veterans Day ceremony on the campus in 2013 to help students develop |

| 9 | 10 | | personal connections to the nation's past; the event grew even |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | bigger the following year, involving the band and the yearbook |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | staff, as well as the talents of students of art, theater, and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | history, among others; a celebration for the whole community, it |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | proved so memorable that local VFW officials have asked to make it |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | their official observance in subsequent years; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ms. McWherter completed her bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | history at Texas Tech University, and she holds a master's degree in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | education from Lamar University; she has 11 years of experience as |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | an educator, and before joining Liberty Hill, she taught in the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Lubbock, Leander, and Georgetown Independent School Districts; and |

| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Through her endeavors as organizer of the annual |

| 21 | 22 | | Veterans Day event at Liberty Hill Junior High School, Melissa |

| 22 | 23 | | McWherter has helped students develop a greater understanding of |

| 23 | 24 | | the sacrifices made by the men and women of our nation's military, |

| 24 | 25 | | and her contributions indeed merit special recognition; now, |
